Position Purpose
The associate leads a project team that will perform project planning and development activities for municipalities and venues in the mid-Atlantic region and nationwide including multi-family and affordable housing, parks and recreation, K-12 advisory and redevelopment, professional and collegiate arena, ballpark and stadium developments, innovation districts, entertainment districts and more.
The associate will be responsible for managing assigned planning and advisory projects and will direct the activities of project analysts or other staff resources assigned to the project to ensure outcomes meet the client’s scope requirements in a timely and effective manner.
Position Responsibilities
- Manages a portfolio of comprehensive planning and development projects, advising clients through effective decision making that results in feasible sustainable and implementable projects.
- Performs, or oversees the performance of, data collection and market analysis (including financial modeling, pro forma analysis, research, focus group leading and reporting, in-person interviews, survey design and analysis, demand modeling, and space planning) financial analysis (including financial modeling, operational pro forma, funding and financing strategies, and economic benefits studies) to gain market insights with purpose and precision.
- Serves as the primary interface and contact for multiple clients, communicating as needed to ensure appropriate follow-through.
- Contributes to the professional development of analysts, coaching them through the development of client advice.
- Participates in and seeks out professional development and coaching opportunities, including B&D’s mentor program.
- Actively participates in B&D’s business development activities to include assisting with marketing activities, proposal development, generating new leads, and pursuing additional services opportunities.
- Manages the financial and accounting requirements of assignments to include scope pricing, client invoicing and collection activities, and account reconciliation and closing.
Ensures that receivables are accurate and current, and accounts are closed in a timely manner.
- Maintains and stores all records, research and data related to assigned projects. Ensures the firm’s legal and fiduciary responsibilities are well documented.
- Directs quality control and client satisfaction activities specific to his / her assigned projects.
- Assists with the company’s research and development efforts by identifying new analytical tools, strengthening existing models, or discovering improved ways of doing business.
- Performs other duties as assigned by project executives or principal.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The associate will supervise and direct a team of analysts and / or staff.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, urban planning, real estate management, or related field. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Minimum of five years' experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities, in a leadership role managing multiple projects of significant scale.
- Reliable transportation
- Strong understanding of real estate development, finance, and accounting principles
- Comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office applications including, Excel, Word, Project , and PowerPoint.
- Ability to apply technological solutions to consulting assignments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple projects of significant scale.
- Ability to be productive in a fast-paced, multi-dimensional work environment.
- Excellent oral, facilitation, presentation, and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- A willingness to travel (by car, air, or train) as necessary to meet client needs, but not more than two-times per month.
- Demonstrated commitment to client satisfaction and ethical business practices.
- Proven adaptability, flexibility, and creativity.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive within a team structure.
- Aptitude and desire for mentoring and training analysts.

The base annual salary range for this role is currently $100,000-$120,000. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data.
Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
