Duties

Responsible for all aspects of pharmacy operations including dispensing, pharmaceutical care, clinical and community relations, and accreditation compliance.

Plans and provides a completely integrated pharmacy program and coordinates these programs with all other departments within the institution.

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the medication delivery system and assures that the integrity of all medications are maintained and are properly stored.

Determines that all medications are properly packaged and labeled.

Responsible for the institution's pharmaceutical budget and ensures national contract compliance as the COTR for the Preferred Prime Vendor (PPV) program, VA contracts, FSS, GSA, and mandatory contracts as they pertain to medication ordering.

Responsible for participating in quality assurance activities regarding medications.

Responsible for the appropriate development and performance of Drug Usage Evaluations (DUE).

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.

The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements :

Basic Requirements :

A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.

S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Phar.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree.

Licensure : Applicants also must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

All qualified referred candidates will undergo a credentialing process prior to employment with the Bureau of Prisons. This process includes validation of examinations, licensure, education, internship and residency.

Education :

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience :

You must have at least one year of professional pharmacy experience. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must be in related to the position to be filled.

Some examples of experience are :

  • Experience in planning and providing a completely integrated pharmacy program and coordinating these programs with all other departments within the institution.
  • Experience in determining that all medications are properly packaged and labeled.
  • Experience in dispensing pharmaceuticals in accordance with proper procedures.
  • Experience in supervising and directing subordinate staff consisting of Staff Pharmacists and / or Pharmacy Technician's (which may include civil service and / or Public Health Service staff).

Medical Requirement :

Must be able to distinguish basic colors.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid work experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (week) spent in the activities.

In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution.

The representative rate for this position is $104,812 per annum ($50.22 per hour).

Special Conditions of Employment Section :

Initial appointment to a supervisory / managerial position requires a one-year probationary period.

The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.

All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.

The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office.

On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score must be obtained.

Further employment consideration will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examination or fails to achieve a passing score.

Note : The Core Value Assessment will not be administered to current BOP employees.

Successful completion of the Introduction to Correctional Techniques, three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.
