This position is to improve the speech and / or language of students who have been identified with speech and / or language disabilities, or students with speech and / or language delays, which interfere with the child’s ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Serve as a resource to school staff and families in the development of a balanced program for communication and speech-language development.
  • Provide evidence-based interventions in a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Framework
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual speech-language needs.
  • Assist and guides teachers / parents in observing, describing and referring students with suspected and / or identified speech-language problems.
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of articulation, voice, fluency and language.
  • Provide screening to specified grade levels at regular intervals to identify speech and / or language impaired children.
  • Provide appropriate individualized educational programs (IEP’s) for speech-language impaired children.
  • Collect and interpret data based on individual student performance
  • Collaborate with school staff and parents to implement therapy strategies for the child’s daily activities.
  • Provide in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff on topics concerning speech-language disabilities.
  • Maintain thorough records of students referred, screened and receiving speech-language therapy and shares pertinent information with school staff.
  • Maintain a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists and other related services.
  • Assimilate all speech-language evaluation information, interprets the evaluation results and writes a cohesive report which discusses all speech-language needs of the student.
  • Conference with parents and school staff on a regular basis.

Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

Reports To : Director of Special Services and Building Principal

Supervises : None

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum : Advanced degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders; Missouri Professional Licensure in Speech Language Pathology, Eligible for a Speech-Language Pathology Student Services Certificate;

Effective human relations and communication skills.

Preferred : Previous experience as a speech language pathologist in the public schools is preferred.
