Engineering Technician

An Engineering Technician with Castro Valley Sanitary District performs a wide variety of technical field and office duties and provides operational support and assistance for the Engineering Department, including performing sanitary sewer inspections, providing technical advice to the public, maintaining engineering records, preparing reports, performing basic engineering calculations, and related work as assigned.

The successful candidate will be a self-driven professional, with the ability to establish and strengthen a wide variety of work relationships.

We are looking for excellent written and oral communication skills, engaging presentation abilities, and the ability to communicate complex ideas, and meet constantly changing priorities.

In addition, the ideal candidate will :

• Be detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills to perform the job functions in a constantly changing environment.
• Have the ability to provide exceptional customer service support to internal and external customers and business partners.
• Be an exceptional project manager who can manage multiple competing priorities while developing effective presentations and reports.
• Perform complex construction inspections to confirm contractual compliance with engineering and construction standards.

Conduct inspections of construction and repair of public and private collection system components and CVSan facilities for compliance with CVSan Code, Alameda County building regulations, the Uniform Plumbing Code, and other regulations.

• Have experience reading and reviewing project plans to determine dimensions of system and material requirements.
• Have basic skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, GIS, and other data entry systems.

THE SELECTION PROCESS : The selection process will include a minimum qualifications assessment and may also include an application and supplemental questionnaire review, followed by selection interviews.

Education : Equivalent to the completion of two (2) years of college-level coursework in civil engineering and / or drafting.

and Experience : Two (2) years of experience in the field or office engineering technical support or drafting which has provided familiarity with engineering drafting, surveying, map checking, construction inspection, materials testing, and basic engineering design.

Licenses : Must possess valid California Class C driver's license and have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Certification : Must obtain confined space certification. Must possess or obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, AED and First Aid certificates within a time period specified by CVSan.

Other Requirements : Willingness and ability to work scheduled and emergency overtime; attend meetings, workshops, and seminars during work and non-work hours as assigned.

ABOUT CASTRO VALLEY SANITARY DISTRICT The Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) is a small public agency organized under the Health and Safety Code of the State of California.

As a California Special District, CVSan has responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer collection system within the unincorporated community of Castro Valley.

CVSan also is in charge of the administration of a refuse collection franchise, the CVSan's 25% interest in a wastewater treatment facility, implementation and administration of State and local mandated recycling programs, as well as participation in sub-regional wastewater discharge and solid / hazardous waste management agencies.
