We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and collaborative leader to take up the general manager position responsible for imaging at NUH.

As part of the directorate leadership team, the post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the safe, high quality and efficient delivery of services covering :

Imaging on the NUH site. This includes Ultrasound, X-ray, CT, MRI, Interventional Radiology and Fluoro. In addition, there are x-ray services provided at the Gateway Surgical Centre and the community hub at Shrewsbury road.

The service provision covers inpatient and outpatient activity.

In line with government legislation from 1st April 2022 all NHS workers in England with face to face contact with patients must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Main duties of the job

Main responsibilities :

  • Provide operational leadership, as part of the leadership team, across the directorate covering quality, access, finance and people;
  • Lead the elective recovery planning and delivery efforts for the imaging modalities with a focus on delivering diagnostic targets and supporting 18 week and diagnostic targets;
  • Work closely with Trust-wide operational and clinical colleagues to support the Trusts elective recovery programme as a whole; and
  • Buy into the culture of performance improvement across the CSS Division to ensure that we are continuously improving the way we deliver services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main duties, responsibilities and results areas

  • Develop a Service Group Delivery Plan (in partnership with the Group Head of Imaging and Site Triumvirate and by agreement with the leadership Team) to meet service needs and contribute to the annual planning process of the Trust in line with agreed corporate objectives and priorities.
  • Recruit, develop and motivate staff through appraisal and performance management systems ensuring that identified development needs are linked to education plans This includes the effective use of relevant procedures (e.

g. disciplinary) in appropriate circumstances.

  • Ensure strong financial service performance against plans through identification of problems at an early stage and the initiation of corrective action.
  • On a regular basis, critically review structures and resources to support continuous improvement of services.
  • Flexibly manage resources to meet the operational and workforce needs of the site.
  • Implement effective commissioning arrangements with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the wider Trust demand & capacity initiatives and planning
  • Plan and manage the implementation of projects to modernise services and to improve facilities and working practices to meet organisational and service delivery plans.
  • Ensure implementation of systems, policies and procedures at local level to fulfil the requirements of the Trusts Risk Management, Quality and Governance and safety strategies.
  • Ensure effective communication systems are in place right through the service group and between and across other relevant service groups and hospital managers, where relationships are key to the delivery of safe and effective care to patients.

Leadership and Strategic Management

  • To provide a clear sense of purpose and leadership by being visible and accessible to staff, patients and the public.
  • To work collaboratively with the Clinical Director and Radiographer Site Lead to develop a vision for staff that ensures a positive, high performing, productive and supportive culture.
  • Ensure all levels of staff have a good understanding of the objectives and priorities of the service group and how these fit into the overarching Trust plans and how their role contributes to these.
  • Develop strategies to ensure staff network with other service areas to support and encourage integrated service delivery and the achievement of key waiting time standards

Operational Management

  • Ensure service group leads are responsible for and effectively manage staff in line with the Trust Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the buildings and equipment used by the services are maintained to a high standard in accordance with Health and Safety requirements and in collaboration with senior managers in Estates and Facilities.
  • Act as a conduit between the Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians and senior managers to ensure effective communication and understanding between these groups and across Barts Health and the whole health and social care economy.
  • Support the divisional Governance Lead, Director of Therapies, Nursing and Governance or Lead as appropriate in the event of investigation into alleged breaches of legal, professional or disciplinary rules occur and ensure appropriate action.
  • Holding services to account for delivery of their objectives through regular local performance review meetings.
  • Ensuring sufficient data availability within the service to monitor and track performance and to satisfy reporting requirements;.

Service Planning, Modernisation and Development

Within the overall strategic framework of the Service, work collaboratively with the Group Head of Imaging and the senior leadership team to identify a clear strategic direction for, and development of services which meets planning objectives.

This will require the development of partnership working across the Trust, Primary Care colleagues and others, ensuring the needs of the population are being addressed in joint plans, service provision and community development projects.

To work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team in the strategic development of services. This will require negotiation and conflict resolution with partners, commissioners and stakeholders.

User Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with Senior Leadership Team and Users securing feedback on service quality, for example leading on the development of user satisfaction
  • Implement systems for promoting the involvement of patients and carers in the development of the clinical service including maintaining proactive working relationships with the Patients Panel and other patient

Information Management

  • Effectively manage and use ICT to monitor the performance of the service, ensuring that accurate information is provided to the Trust within the agreed performance management framework and taking action to continuously
