Minimum Qualifications An Associate's (with a professional license), Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field;
plus 10 years experience in building engineering design and construction. A professional license in Engineering may be substituted for up to 5 years experience with a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
Supervisory experience preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of mechanical and electrical engineering project design development.
Specific knowledge of building HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems as well as campus central systems. Ability to determine from an overview what the Fund, campus and engineering design standards should be applied to a particular project circumstance.
Good knowledge of building systems and building materials, their function, and physical properties as it applies to new and major renovation construction.
Working knowledge of construction methods, applicable codes, laws, rules and standards regulating the design and construction of buildings and building costs.
Outstanding technical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills a must.
Duties Description The State University Construction Fund (the "Fund") is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Associate Project Coordinator) to join our Design and Construction team at our office in Albany, NY.
The Mechanical Engineer (Associate Project Coordinator) performs engineering design reviews of highly technical design plans, specifications and other supporting documentation to determine compliance with Building Codes, SUCF design standards and project scope.
Communicate design requirements in a multi-discipline design professional environment. Assist coordinators in resolving engineering problems encountered during the construction process.
Evaluate new methods, equipment and systems to ascertain their feasibility for use on campus projects. Assist in developing and updating SUCF Program Directives.
Some supervisory activities may be required.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities :
Review design plans and specifications for Building Code and SUCF design standards compliance.
Issue written review comments.
Attend design phase review meetings and interactively resolve design issues.
Independently manage project workloads to produce on-time review comments.
Evaluate new and evolving technologies for potential incorporation into SUCF project designs.
Develop SUCF Program Directives to incorporate current design standards, improved efficiency systems and construction problem related experience.
Ability to mentor junior engineers on project review techniques and SUCF standards.
Assist in coordinating the Engineering Services Group activities.
Travel within New York State is required.
Some supervisory activities may be required.
Perform other duties as directed.
