JOBSUMMARY

The Nurse PractitionerMedical Specialty is a licensed, certified, non-physicianhealthcare provider who actively renders direct patient care andpossesses delegated prescriptive authority, is credentialed andprivileged, and whose service is billed as an independent billingprovider, as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within thehealthcare systems, and in accordance with the appropriate board.

The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based upon thescope of practice as delineated by the supervising physician.

Theseproviders work in a specialty clinic, and may specialize inPalliative Care, Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology,Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Urology, Nephrology,Neurology, Hematology, Oncology, Allergy and Immunology,Rheumatology or other medicalspecialty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OFTHE ROLE

  • Assesses thephysical and mental condition of patients by performing andobtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinationsand medical histories.
  • Orders, collects,interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests toassess patient problems and health careneeds.
  • Prescribes, recommends and / or employsmedical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutictreatments and procedures or performs indicated procedures inaccordance with approved protocols / policies with attention toefficacy, safety, and cost.

Recommends interventions to modifybehavior associated with healthrisks.

Formulates and implements comprehensiveoutcomes-based patient treatment plans based on patientassessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care,professional practice guidelines and in partnership with physiciansand other interdisciplinary team members when appropriate.

Evaluates patient’s response to health care provided and theeffectiveness of care.

Counsels patients andfamilies regarding medical processes, management of the healthillness / condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.

Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects orinteractions with other substances such as food supplements, overthe counter medications and herbalremedies.

  • Maintains appropriate recordsdetailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes. Initiatestimely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope ofpractice and / or expertise.
  • Providesconsultation level services for conditions / problems related to theProvider’s specialty and training.
  • Managespatients in a healthcare setting(s) other than primary clinicsetting (e.g., inpatient, emergency services, procedural,etc.).
  • Performs invasive procedures specific toscope of practice and competency of the provider as delegated bysupervising Physician.
  • May be required toperform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based oncoverage needs of thedepartment.

  • Knowledge ofinformation and techniques needed to diagnose and treat humaninjuries, diseases, and deformities to include symptoms, treatmentalternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventivehealth-care measures
  • Knowledge of principles,methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, andrehabilitation of physical and mentaldysfunctions

  • Skill in the use ofcomputers and related softwareapplications

  • Ability to interpretand evaluate laboratory and other diagnostictests
  • Texas RN licensure or RN licensure withcompact privilege from a state that is party to the Nurse LicensureCompact for RNs and LVNs & TexasAPRN
  • Current license to practice as a NursePractitioner in the state of Texas
  • Basic LifeSupport (BLS) within 30 days of hire ortransfer
  • Certification from an accredited boardas an APRN for the patient population of focusrequired

  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year ofExperience

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) : BasicLife Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire ortransfer.
