Position Announcement
Visiting Assistant Professor, Interior Architecture
West Virginia University, School of Art and Design is seeking applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture .
The position is a full time, 9-month appointment, can be renewed to three years, and will begin on August 16, 2024.
Responsibilities : Teaching (40%)
Teaching (40%)
- Teach all levels of Interior Design courses as needed. Teaching assignment is three (3-credit hour) courses per semester.
- Participate with all aspects of the Interior Architecture program including course development and curriculum updates.
Research (40%)
- Continue professional and creative development sufficient to meet the expectations of a Carnegie Research 1, land-grant University.
- The candidate will be encouraged to develop an externally funded, nationally recognized research agenda that complements existing program strengths in Interior Architecture.
Service (20%)
- Participate in School, College, and University committee assignments as needed. Engage in professional service and student recruitment and retention initiatives.
- May be asked to contribute to CIDA accreditation activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a terminal masters ( MFA, MID, MArch) or doctorate in interior design or interior design-related field.
- Ability to teach BIM (Revit), rendering (Lumion), and illustration programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial and residential building codes.
- Written and oral communication skills consistent with and complementary to the expectations of a public research university.
All required qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications :
- In addition to required qualifications, we desire applicants with professional design experience in a commercial field and experience in the application of digital technology to design.
- In addition to the required proficiency in Revit, the successful candidate should have proficiency in AutoCad, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- NCIDQ certification preferred.
- Minimum of one year teaching experience at the college or university level.
- Experience in attracting and maintaining students in the discipline.
