Toolmaker
Position Summary :
Provides support to all upper-level toolmakers and works with direct supervision from them. Will be tasked with many of the basic machining functions in the preliminary execution of various machining projects.
Must be a highly motivated team player willing to accept direction from all team members. The ability to communicate and interact with engineering, manufacturing, and quality is a prerequisite.
Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. Knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures are essential.
Job Duties & Responsibilities :
- Assist all tool room team members in a support function.
- Assist prototype personnel as requested.
- Math Ability in both geometry and trigonometry.
- Able to use various precision measuring instruments including micrometers, indicators, and both optical and physical gaging.
- Reads and understands most blueprint detail.
- Able to determine fabrication process / sequence with minimal assistance.
- Check part dimensions with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, gauges, and optical comparators.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints.
- Typically works in a 2D environment to tolerances of + / - .005.
- Can fabricate simple jigs and fixtures to complete assigned jobs with supervision.
- Must show the ability and willingness to keep a safe, clean, and organized work area.
Education and / or Experience :
- 3-5 years of machining experience.
- AAS in Machine Tool or vocational training, or equivalent experience a plus.
- Equivalent experience is described as : Benchwork, Milling, Turning, Grinding, Basic Machine Programming, Cad / Cam, Metrology, Quality Control, Fixture Design and Fabrication, EDM, Heat treatment, and Occupational Health and Safety.
Working Conditions :
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
