Position Overview :

1.0 FTE - The Behavior Specialist supports students receiving general and special education who demonstrate a need for additional skill development in the area of behavior. The Behavior Specialist supports school teams to provide a comprehensive approach to behavior support that includes evaluation, data collection, interventions, and regular monitoring of progress.

The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes :

  • all students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control;
  • in the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students;
  • in the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence and student success; and
  • in personalizing learning for students, meeting academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success.

Primary Responsibilities :

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to :

  • Conducting high-quality Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
  • Creating and managing Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) based on the results of a FBA, inclusive of monitoring fidelity of BSP implementation, analyzing data and making data-based adjustments to BSPs, and reporting on progress triannually
  • Attending IEP, evaluation / re-evaluation, re-entry, and other student-focused meetings
  • Leading and coaching a team of paraprofessionals in the implementation of Behavior Support Plans
  • Collaborating and partnering with district and building administrators, general and special education staff, and professional learning communities to ensure student needs are being met
  • Providing pre-referral / pre-FBA intervention to students demonstrating a need for behavioral support
  • Designing and facilitating professional learning on core classroom management expectations and targeted, evidence-based behavior strategies
  • Experience :

    The candidate must be knowledgeable in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and be committed to continuous improvement and professional learning. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years in a special education role and experience designing and facilitating professional learning for colleagues.

    Qualifications :

  • Ability to lower / support up to 40 lbs weight and / or up to adult-size body weight with a two-person lowering
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with team members, including students and their families
  • Licensing Requirements :

  • Must hold a current Minnesota licensure or certification in one of the following :
  • Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD)
  • Academic and Behavioral Strategist (ABS)
  • School Psychologist
  • School Counselor
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst / Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst
  • Licensed Psychologist
  • Salary : Group

    $50,076-$102,103 / school year (placement determined based on experience and qualifications)
