Description
The clinical pathologist or qualified PhD will be responsible for all administrative, operational, technical, and clinical issues related to the medical laboratory of their subspecialty (hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry and microbiology, Point of Care Testing, etc.
The clinical pathologist or qualified PhD works in conjunction with appropriate colleagues and designees and will ensure the laboratory fulfills all articles of compliance, turn-around-times, quality measures, and diagnostic excellence.
The clinical pathologist or qualified PhD will participate in faculty, fellow, and resident recruitment, teaching, and scholarship development.
Clinical pathology occurs at the UHealth Tower (UHT), Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), and UHealth network sites, as well as Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) and Jackson Health system network sites.
Qualifications :
Must be an M.D or D.O. who is Board Certified or Board eligible in Clinical Pathology and or clinical pathology subspecialty, or a PhD Board Certified or eligible for their subspecialty (i.
e. hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry and microbiology).
Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida or have a Laboratory Director’s license in the State of Florida in their subspecialty (i.
e. hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry and microbiology).
List of Responsibilities :
- Follow CLIA regulation. As laboratory director or delegee or designee as applicable, ensure that : Testing systems in the laboratory provide quality services in all aspects of test performance, i.
- e., the preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases of testing and are appropriate for the patient population;Physical and environmental conditions of the laboratory are adequate and appropriate for the testing performed;
- The environment for employees is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards and safety and biohazard requirements are followed;
- A general supervisor (high complexity testing) is available to provide day-to-day supervision of all testing personnel and reporting of test results as well as provide on-site supervision for specific minimally qualified testing personnel when they are performing high complexity testing;
- Sufficient numbers of appropriately educated, experienced, and / or trained personnel who provide appropriate consultation, properly supervise, and accurately perform tests and report test results in accordance with the written duties and responsibilities specified by you, are employed by the laboratoryNew test procedures are reviewed, included in the procedure manual and followed by personnel;
and each employee’s responsibilities and duties are specified in writing.
- Ensure that all delegated responsibilities are performed
- Be accessible to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation
- Ensure that remedial actions are taken and documented
- Make certain that personnel are trained to ensure accurate results
- Ensure that an approved procedure manual for the clinical laboratory is available
- Maintain JCAHO / CAP / CLIA accreditation as applicable
- Participate in the educational curriculum in clinical pathology for residents, fellows, and medical students
- Participate in utilization of laboratory testing
- Develop and participate in Diagnostic Management Teams
- Academically productive with scholarly activities
