At HoustonMethodist the Occupational Therapist (OT) II position isresponsible for position is responsible for evaluating anddeveloping the therapy plan of care for a broad range of diagnosesand acuities.

This position may specialize in care for certaincomplex patient types through advanced training and education. Asan experienced therapist this position provides education topatients patients family members and / or caregivers and collaborateswith other interprofessional team members as needed for problemresolution and / or achievement of identified patient specific goals.

As a member of the interprofessional care team the OT II positionprovides patient care directly and delivers exceptional patientcare with adherence to safety standards and guidelines to ensureoptimal patient safety customer service and optimum patientoutcomes.

This position serves as preceptor mentor and resource toless experienced staff including other Therapists and techniciansand may act as a clinical resource to students and clinicalfellows.

The OT II position assists with collection of qualitymetrics and analytics with development of best practices andprocess improvement initiatives asdesignated.

PEOPLEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Contributesto teamwork consistently offering assistance and respondingpositively to requests for assistance. Collaborates to fosterhealthy relationships in the work environment.

Offers guidance tointerprofessional health care team when appropriate and appliesfeedback to improve patientoutcomes.

Uses therapeuticcommunication which includes active listening and teaching toestablish a relationship with patients families andinterprofessional health care team to collaborate on the plan ofcare.

Partners with members of the interprofessional care team byactively communicating and reporting pertinent patient careinformation and data in a comprehensivemanner.

Teaches andprovides guidance to nursing and support staff. Orients new teammembers and assists with precepting students in clinical rotationsand clinical fellows.

Uses peertopeer accountability towardsimprovement of department score for employeeengagement.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Performscomplete and comprehensive evaluation of patients across a broadrange of diagnosis and acuities to identify patients level offunction and to determine the treatment plan.

Develops the plan ofcare based on evaluation findings and implements the occupationaltherapy treatment plan. Provides service to complex patientpopulations.

Practices in a manner that is congruent with culturaldiversity and inclusionprinciples.

Provideseducation to patients patients family members and / or caregiversbased on learning needs. Consistently evaluates the patientscomprehension and adapts teaching methods accordingly.

Serves asresource to clinical fellows and nursing in teaching bestpractices.

Collaboratesand communicates with the healthcare team modifications to patientstreatment plan progress and discharge planning for achievement ofidentified patient specific goals.

Advocates on patient / familysbehalf to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concernsutilizing appropriateresources.

Balances andadjusts as needed the caseload for the assigned team members toresult in optimum patient care and outcome. Initiates improvementsfor department score on patient satisfaction through peertopeeraccountability to servicestandards.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Assessespatients regularly monitors progress towards treatment goalsmodifies goals and plan or program as indicated. Recognizescomplications / limitations associated with certain procedures andproactively addresses such for optimumoutcomes.
  • Providesoversight of occupational therapyrelated activities completed byinterprofessional health care team and if necessary adjusts theplan to improve quality of outcome and maintain the safety of thepatient.
  • Proactivelyidentifies opportunities for corrective action and assists inprocess improvement by providing recommendations and contributes tomeeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.

Identifies areas of practice improvements with researchbasedevidence and assists in development of treatment protocols and bestpractice for certain population or practice area to achieve patientsafety outcomes supported by accuratedocumentation.

FINANCEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Maintainsaccurate and complete documentation of patient education andprocedures performed in a timely manner in the patient record.

Enters accurate charges for services provided asapplicable.

Uses resourcesefficiently to maximize utilization of time and equipment.Selfmotivated to independently manage time effectively minimizingincidental overtime and prioritize daily tasks assisting coworkersas needed.

Meets labor productivity standards by effectivelymanaging established patient loadassignments.

GROWTH / INNOVATIONESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Initiatesinnovative solutions through evidencebased practice / performanceimprovement projects. Actively participates in and may leaddepartment projects and / or hospital committees.

Participates inHMrelated and approved hospital / community teaching opportunitiescommunity services and / orfunctions.

Identifies andpresents areas for innovation efficiency and improvement in patientcare or unit operations using evidencebased practice literature.

Assists higher level OTs with program development and / or clinicalcompetencies.

Seeksopportunities to identify selfdevelopment needs and expand learningbeyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual developmentas an OT taking appropriate action.

Ensures own career discussionsoccur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the MyDevelopment Plan on an ongoingbasis.

EDUCATION

Graduateof education program approved by the credentialing body for therequired credential(s) indicated below in the CertificationsLicenses and Registrationssection.

WORKEXPERIENCE

  • Musthave one of the following :
  • Three yearsexperience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Twoyears of experience as an Occupational Therapist with a Doctoratedegree
  • Completion of HM or comparableOccupational Therapy Fellowship / Residencyprogram

LICENSESAND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

  • BLS Basic LifeSupport (AHA) AND
  • OTOccupational Therapy State Licensure Compact license acceptableaccording to current Board requirements within 90 days OR
  • OTTempTemporary Occupational Therapist Registered State Licensure Compactlicense acceptable according to current Board requirements within90 days
