Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and serving as a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Nursing assumes responsibility for the strategic planning, coordination, and supervision of nursing and clinical education initiatives at PCHC to further PCHC’s model of high-quality, community-based health care.

This role encompasses oversight of nursing services and medical assistant services within primary care and specialties, infection control, and nurse case management throughout the organization.

Representative Duties :

  • Leadership and Supervision :
  • Provide direct clinical supervision and coordination for Nursing Leadership including Charge Nurses, Float / Per Diem nurses, Case Management Staff (including Women’s Cancer Screening and Community Outreach Advocates), Infection Control and Employee Health Nurse Lead, Clinical Educators, Triage Nurses.

Indirect reporting relationship to Assistant Health Center Directors (with respect to clinical functions of the role, unless and until AHCDs are no longer required to be RNs).

  • Collaborate with the Nursing Leadership Team to develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to enhance nursing and clinical education programs, driving innovation and excellence in patient care.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure nursing and clinical education initiatives support the overall mission and direction of PCHC.
  • Policy Development and Implementation :
  • Define the philosophy, purpose, policies, procedures, and standards for RN, LPN, and MA / HCA care within the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices in nursing and clinical education.
  • Continually assess clinical practice including scope of practice, protocols, and workflows, in collaboration with departments across PCHC
  • Utilize a multidisciplinary approach to assess current policies and recommend necessary changes for the implementation of organization-wide clinical initiatives and protocols.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, making data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement and quality assurance.
  • Lead initiatives to maintain accreditation standards and prepare for regulatory surveys and audits.
  • Staff Development and Education :
  • Foster an environment that encourages professional growth and practices to the highest level of licensure and skillset for RNs, LPNs, and MAs / HCAs.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive onboarding and continuing education curricula for nursing and clinical staff.
  • Collaborates with Medical Director(s) to evaluate, implement and maintain point of care testing vendors and materials
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to nursing leadership team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a champion for nursing and clinical staff, advocating for their professional development and well-being within the organization.
  • Quality Improvement and Compliance :
  • Collaborate with Risk Management and clinical leaders to address issues related to patient care, clinical quality, compliance, and safety.
  • Participate in readiness programs for regulatory surveys and accreditation visits.
  • Co-Chairs Performance Improvement Committee and is a regular guest speaker in Board of Directors Quality Assurance Committee meetings.
  • Data Analysis and Performance Management :
  • Review and act on feedback related to nursing care, including patient satisfaction surveys and incident reports, in collaboration with Risk Management.
  • Monitor and evaluate nursing initiatives and outcomes, making data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement and quality assurance.
  • In collaboration with AVP of Site Operations and clinical directors, evaluate clinic access data to improve wait times for nursing services where applicable.
  • Budget Development and Management :
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility and efficiency in resource allocation for nursing and clinical education programs.
  • Identify opportunities for resource optimization and cost-saving initiatives while maintaining high standards of patient care and staff development.
  • Community Engagement and Professional Development :
  • Represent PCHC in relevant community forums, professional associations, and industry conferences, promoting nursing excellence and clinical education initiatives.
  • Stay informed about advancements in nursing education and clinical practice through ongoing professional development activities.
  • Work collaboratively with Providence School Department and Rhode Island Department of Health, as well as vendors related to clinical care where necessary.

Requirements :

  • Master’s degree or higher in Nursing or related field.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island (or eligible for licensure).
  • Minimum of three years of primary care experience as a registered nurse in an ambulatory care setting within a federally qualified health center.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse colleagues, patients, and stakeholders, promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging.
  • Commitment to contributing to the organization's initiatives and fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Five or more years of progressive nurse management experience within a federally qualified health center.
  • Master’s in Public Health (MPH).
  • Training in process improvement methodologies or LEAN principles, as well as Project Management experience or training
