Description :

  • The successful applicant is expected to provide leadership and administrative oversight for the Department faculty, staff and students;
  • manage faculty and staff roles and responsibilities; create and lead new initiatives for enhancing or expanding educational and research programs that address Department, College and University priorities;
  • maintain and grow a strong mentoring environment for faculty, staff and students; promote teamwork, build relationships and develop alliances both within the Department and with public health and biomedical professionals, agencies and associations in the state, region, and nationally;
  • teach and mentor students at the graduate level; conduct research in one or more fields relevant to the Department’s mission;

represent and advocate for the Department within the Hudson College of Public Health and University of Oklahoma, with local and government agencies, and with constituent communities.

Additional Information :

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications. The 12-month position carries an administrative supplement for the role of Chairperson.

About the Department :

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology ( https : / / publichealth.ouhsc.edu / Departments-Centers / Biostatistics-Epidemiology ) is housed within the Hudson College of Public Health, Oklahoma’s only CEPH-accredited School of Public Health ( https : / / publichealth.

ouhsc.edu / ). The College offers graduate degree programs with concentrations in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Administration and Policy, Health Promotion Sciences, and Occupational and Environmental Health.

We have a rapidly growing undergraduate program in Public Health. The Department comprises 25 full time faculty and approximately 75 graduate students in MPH, MS, and PhD programs.

Faculty perform active research in the analysis of longitudinal and other correlated data, survival analysis methods, clinical trials methodologies, Bayesian statistics, survey sampling methods, statistical genetics, high-dimensional data analysis, health disparities, tobacco control, communicable diseases, trauma-related health outcomes, environmental exposures and reproductive outcomes and cancer prevention and control.

Annual grant and contract funding exceeds $11 million.

Due to current and future needs, the successful candidate will have the immediate opportunity to recruit Biostatistics and / or Epidemiology faculty to support the implementation of the OUHSC Research Strategic Plan and the growth of undergraduate and online programs.

The Hudson College of Public Health was established in 1967 and has been continuously accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH) since 1969.

We are the only accredited school of public health in Oklahoma and have a multi-disciplinary faculty in five core areas : Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Administration and Policy, Health Promotion Sciences, and Occupational and Environmental Health.

Qualifications :

Required qualifications include a doctorate in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field; tenure-eligible at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with an established record of excellence in research, teaching, service and leadership;

and administrative experience that demonstrates potential for success as a department chair, including managing individuals and budget oversight.

Preferred qualifications include experience working with University leaders and programs to build centralized support services and programs to achieve the educational and research missions of the University;

effective communication skills; demonstrated commitment to inter-disciplinary research collaboration experience; and prior experience working in a program accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.
