Senior Planning Engineer – Water & Wastewater
American Water is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to lead strategic long-term water and wastewater system planning. The role recommends projects or approaches to address complex supply, treatment, storage, pumping and transmission issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and prepare strategic water and wastewater system planning studies, including comprehensive or targeted issue-based studies.
- Prepare and maintain asset investment plans and strategic capital expenditure plans, ensuring operational needs and strategic investment goals are addressed.
- Conduct system capacity evaluations and analyze source, treatment, distribution / collection, pumping & storage deficiencies to support operations, service extension requests and regional growth opportunities.
- Serve as a technical resource on Water and Wastewater System Planning matters, including capital planning, safe yield analysis, demand / load projections, treatment adequacy, collection, transmission and distribution adequacy, hydraulic modeling and analysis, water conservation, regionalization and related subjects.
- Present engineering analysis results to internal and external stakeholders, including expert testimony, presentations to regulatory agencies and senior company management.

Bachelor's degree in engineering.Advanced management or technical degree preferred.8+ years' experience in water resources planning.Certifications & Licenses
Professional Engineering (PE) license required.Driver's license required.Work Environment
Primarily in the office with occasional on-site work at water / wastewater facilities for site investigations and project kick-off or review meetings.
Travel Requirements
Up to 20% travel.
