FLSA Status : Hourly

Salary : $21.63

Purpose : This is a professional position providing coordination of services for Epworth’s Chafee Program. This employee is responsible for supporting youth with basic needs, crisis intervention, goal planning and attainment, implementation of training curriculum on an individual and group basis, and developing linkages within the network of community service providers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following : (Other duties as assigned.)

Complete enrollment process with new Chafee clients; conduct required individual assessments and complete goal plans as needed;

provide follow up support as needed to reach goals.

  • Create and develop training curriculum modules to provide life skill instruction on both an individual and group basis.
  • Build rapport and establish trust with foster, homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Ensure a Strength-Based Treatment approach is utilized with clients.
  • Deliver tangible items to clients as needed, including but not limited to food, hygiene items, safe sex kits, and clothing.
  • Distribute written information and facilitate community presentations about the Chafee Program in an effort to reach the target population.

Facilitate training both in-house and in the community.

  • Attend meetings in the community with participants as needed (i.e. FST meetings, Family Court, etc.).
  • Develop and implement trainings, leadership camp, educational outings, community service learning and other events for clients as assigned.
  • Responsible for making decisions in a timely manner; independently determining next steps related to youth services for housing, medical, education, social and emotional supports;

monitor and ensure youth receive identified, necessary resources for quality services.

  • Provide back-up coverage as needed in the Drop-in Center.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of events, concerns, needs as appropriate.
  • Work as a partner in the community to build new relationships with community members such as mentors, potential employers, other community resources and funding sources on behalf of the youth the program serves.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of programs in the St. Louis area that could be used as resources for youth.
  • Create monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required by funder contracts.
  • Record client data, outcome measurement and other significant information into ETO and other required database systems in a timely manner to show the effectiveness of the Chafee program.
  • Ensure program complies with accreditation and funder standards.
  • Adhere to agency rules, policies and procedures including attendance, program / department specific procedures, workplace safety, code of conduct, social media, training requirements, and confidentiality.

This position will be assigned a reduced caseload with the following added responsibilities :

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community agencies to provide additional programming opportunities for youth attending life skills classes in the drop-in center.
  • Create and manage the monthly class and activity calendar, ensuring it is distributed to youth and community partners in a timely manner.
  • Plan and oversee special youth events and activities, such as Leadership Camp, Senior Pictures, Back to School BBQ, Child Advocacy Day and college tours.
  • Manage all Youth Board meetings and leadership activities, including transporting and chaperoning youth at quarterly weekend state board meetings held out of town.
  • Assist with the implementation and management of the IDA Financial Literacy Program.

Supervisory Responsibilities : May supervise student interns and volunteers.

Education and / or Experience :

Bachelor’s degree in social work, drug and alcohol education, counseling, psychology, sociology, education, or criminal justice.

Knowledge of treatment for runaway, homeless, at-risk, and foster care youth is preferred.

Minimum of one year working with youth.

Language Skills : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals and treatment plans. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedural manuals.

Ability to effectively speak before groups of clients, employees and / or managers of the agency.

Reasoning Ability : Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to make independent decisions through application of common sense, data, and knowledge gained through training and education.

Ability to solve problems and deal with abstract and concrete variables in situations and to synthesize information consistent with the organizational strategy and mission.

Strong ability to lead, organize and plan.

Computer Skills : Email, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel and Data Entry.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively.

Work Environment : Work is both community based and performed in program setting. Will need to transport clients to activities or appointments in personal and / or agency vehicles.

Evenings and some weekends required.

Other : Must be 21 years of age. Must possess a valid class E driver’s license and have consistent personal transportation in order to visit clients.

Must have auto insurance when using own vehicle to transport clients to appointments and community meetings.
