The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) is seeking a Program Manager to support the Associate Dean of Community Engagement in the development, implementation, and management of initiatives to promote public health and well-being within our communities and implementing strategies to foster strong relationships between MEZCOPH and communities in AZ and beyond.

The Program Manager will collaborate with various health departments and community partners to organize outreach programs, events, and initiatives that promote community involvement and address local needs.

Responsibilities may also include overseeing staff, student interns, and volunteer efforts, coordinating partnerships with external organizations, and measuring the impact of these activities on both MEZCOPH and the communities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Building and maintaining community partnerships :

  • Creating and implementing strategies to engage various community members, organizations, and partners, in alignment with MEZCOPH's goals.
  • Establishing and nurturing relationships with community leaders, and organizations to foster collaboration and mutual support.
  • Serving as a liaison between MEZCOPH and community members, ensuring effective and transparent communication channels and addressing concerns or feedback from the community.
  • Conducting research and assessments to understand community needs, demographics, and trends, informing the development of targeted engagement strategies and programs.
  • Support academic health departments by developing relationships with health department staff to identify research and service priorities and assist with identifying student interns.
  • Develop MOUs and other types of documents and agreements to formalize community engagement activities with various entities.

Managing outreach programs :

  • Identifying opportunities to host or participate in community events, workshops, and programs that promote community involvement, dialogue, and inclusivity.
  • Designing, coordinating, and evaluating outreach programs to reach targeted communities, such as science cafe series, educational initiatives, volunteer programs, or community development projects.

Collaborating with internal departments :

  • Assist with managing the Community, Engagement, Practice and Service Committee for MEZCOPH.
  • Will work closely with internal teams, such as marketing, public relations, and program management, to ensure cohesive messaging and alignment of community engagement initiatives with overall MEZCOPH goals.
  • Assist student affairs with identifying and placing interns and affiliation agreements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote MEZCOPH's community engagement efforts through various channels, including social media and the website as well as in-person outreach activities like science cafes.

Tracking and reporting :

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of community engagement efforts, tracking progress, and preparing reports to share with community partners and MEZCOPH.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff members, student interns or community outreach teams involved in community engagement activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public health or related field.
  • Two years of experience managing and evaluating community based programs.
  • Two years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with developing MOUs, affiliation agreements, and contracts.
  • Experience working with communities in the Southwest and with Tribal nations.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish).
