Job Description : PAE seeks an energetic, flexible, knowledgeable, and team-oriented instructor to teach and coordinate Workforce-focused ESOL and Workforce Training classes, including those offered as a part of two programs : English for Job Preparation (EJP) and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Preparation, and serve as Team Lead for both.
These programs work in coordination with both the ESOL and Workforce Departments at PAE and in conjunction with community and employer partners.
Successful candidates will plan, team-teach and lead an intensive program designed for immigrants with intermediate English language skills that are preparing for their first job in the U.
S., or those that have applied for their U.S. work authorization, covering topics such as job search strategies, workplace vocabulary, and customer service skills.
They will also coordinate a financial literacy and money management skills course with a community partner, advise students individually on job seeking strategies, and give guidance when applying for jobs.
They will also plan, team-teach and lead the Commercial Driver’s License preparation program with a partner institution, including courses on digital literacy, career planning, and test preparation.
The team lead will provide advisory support to students applying for their license and seeking jobs. The instructor will also teach other courses depending on school and student needs.
Courses may be offered in person, virtually, or in hybrid format and are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evenings.
The candidate must be able to start working within a month of the job offer.
Responsibilities :
- Act as the primary point of contact for EJP and CDL Preparation programs participants and liaison to institutional partners.
- Collaborate with the Workforce Training Department Chair and other colleagues to coordinate and develop programming.
- Create and teach highly effective lesson plans using best practices and incorporating digital literacy.
- Track students’ overall progress in both programs to fulfill grant requirements.
- Provide career advising, job search support, and support in license application.
Required Skills / Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree.
- Maine State educator certification or eligibility to obtain it.
- Prior teaching or training experience in a classroom or professional setting.
- Experience working with multilingual populations and ESOL students.
- Excellent teaching skills.
- Clear, concise oral and written communication to effectively interact with program participants, PAE colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Interpersonal skills in order to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and employers.
- Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan & implement projects effectively.
- An understanding and appreciation of diversity and cultural sensitivity to create an inclusive workplace environment that respects and celebrates individual differences and fosters a respectful and harassment-free environment.
- Excellent computer skills and experience using Google Suite and MS Office.
- Evening availability.
Preferred :
- Familiarity with the career counseling and Maine Department of Transportation Licensing requirements.

- PAE offers both in-person and remote classes. In-person classes take place at 14 Locust St, Portland, ME.
