Job Description Summary

As part of the Systems Engineering team, this role owns the physical integration of the RISE Open Fan engine integration to the flight test demonstrator aircraft.

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs.

The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed.

Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team.

Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

The person in this role will coordinate closely with the Systems team, flight test operations, broader engineering team, external partners and airframers in the areas of :

  • Interface Control Documents
  • Negotiate interfaces between internal owners and external customer / partners
  • Ensure completeness of ICD framework and individual ICDs
  • Architecture design for engine-to-aircraft interfaces
  • Lead system-level integration and design activities, while considering system interactions
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of digital models, interface stack-ups, clearance, kinematics, etc.
  • Assess impacts to accessibility, integration and requirements due to changes in design
  • Requirements and Risks coordination for engine-to-aircraft interfaces
  • Lead trade studies and guide overall design to balance system and airframer requirements
  • Perform and communicate system-level risk assessments
  • Develop and direct implementation of abatement plans
  • In addition :
  • Conducts component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability.

Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down. Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product / system, including system level testing.

Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams. Manages interface between components and execution organizations.

  • Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice / quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area.

Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.

  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational / product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.

Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.

Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.

Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.

Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university
  • 6 years of experience in Systems Engineering

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with external partners and customers
  • Ability to travel approximately quarterly
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills
