The Scientist II, Oligonucleotide Research and Development, is responsible for optimization of automated synthesis and purification of oligonucleotides for PCR applications.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in oligonucleotide research, process development, and analytical chemistry. The role requires planning, executing laboratory experimentation and both analyzing and organizing data on experimental results.

This position is part of the Chemistry R&D Department and will be located in Bothell, Washington. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to :

  • Provide internal customers with R&D grade oligonucleotides : synthesize, purify, analyze, provide research COA and ship to customers.
  • Assist senior members of the oligo research group by performing routine laboratory activities such as : maintenance & operation of equipment used to prepare oligonucleotides (synthesizer, HPLCs, speedvacs, LCMS, etc).
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks (i.e., proper chemical handling with compliance according to EH&S guidelines, sample & buffer preparation, accurate product and reagent labeling, etc)
  • Maintain accurate notebooks and other electronic record keeping in accordance with FDA and international regulations (e.

g., 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485) in support of Cepheid’s product development process.

Work collaboratively while fostering professional, constructive relationships as part of a team while also working independently to meet challenging timelines and goals.

The essential requirements of the job include :

  • Bachelor’s degree in with 2+ years of related work experience or Master’s degree with 0-2 years of related work experience in Chemistry or Biochemistry or other related field
  • Fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical chemistry techniques
  • Operation of MerMade synthesizers (or other DNA / RNA synthesizer), maintenance and troubleshooting laboratory equipment;

proficiency with analytical instruments : HPLC, UHPLC, LC-MS, UV-Vis

Must have work experience in the following :

  • Working with reactive chemicals in a chemistry synthesis laboratory
  • Familiarity with cGMP work environment and documentation requirements
  • Working in a highly productive team environment as an effective team player, understanding priorities and work to provide support to the team to realize long and short-term goals

The salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $72,000 to $100,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.

We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Washington.

This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus / incentive pay.
