Our mission is to provide students with the academic skills and self-discipline needed for college and life success through high-quality instruction, intensive academic supports, and hard work.
We are a new college preparatory elementary and middle school serving the students of Jackson, MS.
Responsibilities and Duties
Driven by our mission to ensure every child succeeds, the founding teaching fellows will be responsible for ensuring all students are provided with the academic and character skills to firmly position them on the path to college.
Teacher fellows work alongside classroom teachers and develop skills in preparation to take lead classroom positions.
Key Responsibilities :
Provide a strong foundation of learning and achievement for all students
Assist the lead classroom teacher in planning, designing, and delivering lessons
Provide small group instruction
Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
Utilize diagnostic assessment tools to identify the learning strengths and needs of every student, regularly, for intervention and / or acceleration toward academic and leadership standards
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the school for all students
Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
Provide time in the evening, by phone, for questions and concerns that students and / or parents may have regarding education-related issues that could not be handled during the school day
Maintain and improve professional competence
Participate in all professional development opportunities
Actively participate in team meetings and serve on staff committees
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members
Participate in community outreach opportunities
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Desired and Required Experience
Bachelor's degree, required
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Experience working with under-resourced communities, families, and / or students
Proven written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district
A successful background check in compliance with state law required
