Postdoctoral Associate - Nehme lab

Broad Institute
Cambridge, MA
Full-time

Description & Requirements

The Broad The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is one of the world's leading biomedical research institutes. It seeks to discover the molecular basis of major human diseases, develop effective new approaches to diagnostics and therapeutics, and disseminate discoveries, tools, methods, and data openly to the entire scientific community.

Founded in 2004, the Broad Institute includes faculty, professional staff, and students from throughout the MIT and Harvard biomedical research communities, with collaborations spanning the globe.

The Lab The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard is looking for outstanding postdoctoral scholars to join the laboratory of Ralda Nehme and Evan Macosko to uncover molecular and cellular mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease.

Building on insights we have developed from the study of postmortem brain tissue, we aim to uncover key principles of disease pathogenesis using human stem cell derived models.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary group and perform cutting-edge research on the molecular, cellular and neurobiological mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders.

Specifically, the candidate will generate human brain cell types, including dopaminergic neurons from pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) in vitro, in order to investigate cellular and molecular disease mechanisms.

The candidate would address fundamental scientific questions, formulate hypotheses, design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data, and write and publish original papers, often in collaboration with other lab members and external collaborators.

We emphasize research training and career development for all lab members.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in genetics, neuroscience, molecular / cellular biology or related field
  • Basic laboratory methods of molecular cell biology, imaging, and / or electrophysiology
  • Strong publication record
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications Candidates with expertise in ONE or MORE of the following areas will be given priority.

  • Expertise in computational / bioinformatics approaches to biological problems
  • Programming (R and Python)
  • Next-generation sequencing methods (RNAseq, single cell RNAseq, ATAC-seq)
  • Scientific investigation at the molecular and cellular level
  • Experience with neuronal and / or stem cell culture
  • Experience with dopaminergic neuron differentiation
