Description
POSITIONSUMMARY : Directs and / or provides professional postanesthesia nursing care for an assigned group of patients acrossthe age continuum.
Utilizes the nursing process ofassessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to direct orprovide nursing care. Provides supervision and guidance toother members of the PACU or pre-operative staff;
and may beauthorized, in the absence of the Manager Patient Services or theManager Surgical Services, to make decisions affecting the PACU orpre-operative area.
Requirements
EDUCATION : Graduate ofan NLN accredited school of professional nursing.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSES : Current New Mexico RN license or current Compactstate license. BLS Certification required or within 2 weeksof hire date.
ACLS and PALS certifications must be obtainedwithin 6 months of hire date.

- Ability to relate and work effectively withothers
- Demonstrated skills in verbal andwritten English communications for safe and effective patient careand to meet documentation standards.
- Willingness to participate in goal-setting andeducational activities for own professional advancement.
- Is aware of professional nursing standards and performsin accordance with them.
EXPERIENCE : PreviousPACU, ambulatory care, critical care or general nursing experienceis preferred.

Direct contactwith blood or other body fluids to which universal precautionsapply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must beworn.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 150pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull 150-300pounds with assistance.
Work is of medium demand; walking orstanding most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditoryacuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designatedduties required.
Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment andinstruments or needles is essential to performing assignedduties.
Physical conditions are clean, neat and welllit. May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors,stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents wherejudgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential.
Climate control and ambient temperature variances may beexperienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgicalteam.
Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardouschemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are apossibility.
Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedlyextended due to the requirements of the daily surgical schedule.
