Position description

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Stem Cell Program and Division of Malignant Hematology / Cellular Therapy and Transplantation is recruiting for a full-time faculty member in the Regular / In-Residence series at the Assistant Professor rank in the field of Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT), including CAR-T Cells.

Faculty in this series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research and creative work, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service.

The successful candidate will have a promising program of research in the field of immunology and gene therapy, specifically Chimeric Antigen Receptor-Modified T Cell (CAR-T) design and translation.

The incumbent will join a highly active and multidisciplinary group of faculty with research spanning various aspects of Cellular Therapy and Gene Therapy, and a very active transactional and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) manufacturing group delivering CAR-T therapies.

Applicants should show strong potential for top quality, innovative, and high-impact research in CAR-T immunotherapy development.

Experienced candidates should have a record of high-quality published or in-process research consistent with their experience and exhibit strong thought leadership in their domain.

The recruit will immediately be integrated into ongoing research and translation in the Institute for Regenerative Cures (IRC), with research and office space in that building.

The incumbent must provide service to department, school and campus committees and must have the ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment.

The successful candidate must also have the ability to adhere to University policies and procedures. The position gives the successful candidate the opportunity to join a growing practice in a stimulating environment of an academic clinician who is committed to both clinical care and research. .

MH / CTT has nine faculty and ongoing faculty recruitments, 19 nurse practitioners, 12 research and administrative staff, and operates a large and diverse clinical and research program.

The division is a major component of the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and has a strong presence in developmental therapeutics with an Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) grant and as a Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS) with the NCI National Clinical Trials Network.

The division research portfolio is broad and spans laboratory-based early translation to a robust clinical trials program.

The UC Davis School of Medicine is in the top quarter of US medical schools for NIH funding and one of the inaugural Clinical and Translational Award sites.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Must possess M.D. or M.D. / Ph.D. degree or equivalent terminal degree
  • An outstanding record of research creativity, independence, and productivity
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain extramurally funded research programs
  • The ideal candidate will have working knowledge and interest in key areas of early cell and / or gene therapy development, biology, chemistry, pharmacology and / or experience in clinical drug development, conducting early phase clinical trials
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively as a teacher
  • Demonstrated significant knowledge of translational and clinical research and its application to drug development
  • Experience with Immunotherapy development, design and transplantation
  • Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment
