We are looking for motivated, self-starters with at least 10 years of experience working with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois Tollway, Counties, the City of Chicago, Railroad agencies and Aviation.

Duties & Key Responsibilities
The Resident Engineer will be responsible for coordination and monitoring of all field construction administration activities to ensure construction projects conform to the contract documents.
- Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Lead the setup and maintenance of master project files.
- Provides training and mentorship to field staff.
- Monitor activities of field staff to ensure conformance with contractual requirements.
- Coordinate material testing, daily inspection of contractor activities and review Inspector’s daily report to ensure accuracy.
- Review and respond to contractor submittals and requests for information.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve design / coordination issues.
- Monitor contractor’s work progress against project schedule and budget.
- Work proactively to identify and mitigate risks.
- Lead project meetings
- Review contractor’s request for additional payment and prepares change orders / extra work orders as necessary.
- Reviews and approves contractor progress payments.
- Manages contract closeout.
Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and EIT is a must with ability to obtain IL Professional Engineer license (PE) within 12 months.
- 10+ years’ field experience with 5+ of that as a Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer on heavy civil projects is required.
- Current IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities Certification is required.
- Experience with material certification for local, state and federally funded projects is desired.
- Experience with CMMS and e-Builder is desired.
- Experience with civil roadway construction, public works construction, and land development projects is required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to maintain detailed daily logs and prepare project reports is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all project’s stakeholders (client, contractor, sub-consultants) and interact with the public and elected officials to respond to inquiries and resolve problems.
- Experience with Primavera, MS Project and / or other construction phase reporting and project management tools is desired.
Proficiency with MS Office applications for reporting and data management is required.
- The ability to utilize critical thinking, judgment and experience to define, analyze and solve problems is required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, be able to travel to local project sites and work extended hours as required.
