Job Summary
This hybrid job performs as a Nursing Assistant, Unit Secretary and Monitor Tech. Assists the Registered Nurse in providing patient care based on the individualized plan of care for a patient.
As delegated, performs basic nursing activities and unit secretary duties. Conducts data collection, monitors and documents patient status.
Ensures confidentiality of all patient information. Utilizes safe patient handling at all times. Informs RN of activities performed.
Observations of patients and changes in patient status. Provides a neat and clean patient environment.
As a Monitor Tech, observes cardiac monitors to identify abnormal heart rhythms under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Accountabilities
Performs effective customer service skills, to include, but not limited to, responding to patients, family and staff with kindness, courtesy, professionalism and efficiency;
walking visitors to their destination, answering phones / intercoms in a friendly manner. Participates in patient care rounding in collaboration with unit staff to include daily introductions to patient / families with the use of AIDET. 20%
Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene. Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance.May transport patients and assist with walking.
Assisting adult / pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal.
Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated. Removing and reapplying anti-emboli hose or compression devices. 20%
Performs data collection including vital signs, fluid intake and outtake. Also, basic and sterile specimen collection. Properly documents and maintains data on medical record and informs RN of activities performed, observations of patients and changes in patient status. 20%
Coordinates the maintenance of a safe, clean and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards. 10%
Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN. Reports lab values to RN. 5%
Manages ordering, stocking, and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with nurse manager.Unit operation responsibilities include but not limited to : daily monitoring of supplies, ordering office supplies, ordering special supplies, monitoring PAR levels of supplies, and maintaining / organizing unit supply rooms. 10%
Performs general reception and clerical duties at the nurse's station, including responding to patient calls via intercom or in person. 5%
Receives report from the previous shift and documents strips per policy. Continually observes cardiac monitors and reports any changes in cardiac rhythm to the appropriate RN.
Completes telemetry summary report per policy guidelines. Responsible for the management and distribution of transmitter boxes.
Ensures transmitter boxes are returned to the surveillance center in a timely manner after discontinuation of telemetry monitoring.
Reports problems regarding poor transmission, etc. to the appropriate unit and personnel. Reports telemetry system failures to designated personnel and departments.
Maintains adequate telemetry supplies and keeps the monitoring areas and equipment clean and organized. 10%
Minimum Qualifications
Education - Completion of a nursing assistant or patient care tech training program.
Experience - 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting required.

Other Required Skills / Experience
After hire, requires attendance of formal arrhythmia training class and successful completion of the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts.
Successful completion of the arrhythmia exam must be completed within 30 days of hire.
Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis for the monitor tech role.
Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
In Lieu Of The Minimum Requirements Noted Above
In lieu of verification of a nursing assistant training program, will accept current or former South Carolina CN A certification as proof of completed training at time of hire.
