Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the test proctor’s responsibilities include welcoming and checking in examinees, verifying ID, and administering a variety of exams diverse in format and instruction accurately in a fast- paced environment.

The proctor monitors candidates at all times during testing. The proctor works and interacts effectively with students, instructors, and college staff to create a secure, efficient and courteous testing environment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties -Greet testers and verify valid ID’s for testing.

  • Provide instructions to student(s) regarding exam(s).
  • Seat examinees, launch exams, and enforce exam time limits.
  • Proctor exams including monitoring examinees via video surveillance or walk through.
  • Monitor for academic misconduct, intervene upon finding academic misconduct, and report findings to Assistant Director and faculty.
  • Ensure integrity of exam material and act quickly during academic dishonesty.
  • Complete walk through of testing areas to monitor for academic misconduct.
  • Handle and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Organize and file exam materials both in paper and electronic formats accurately.
  • Look up student information in College Information System(s).
  • Enforce and uphold policies and procedures firmly and courteously.
  • Ability to work in past paced and demanding environment(s).
  • Provide accurate and consistent information in a concise and professional manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all via in person, email, and phone.
  • Must be able to multi-task and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Assist departmental personnel with other duties as needed and assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness of check-in, check-out, testing areas and labs.
  • Operate office equipment (i.e., printers, scanners, exam software and exam tools).
  • Answer phones and respond to emails.
  • Other duties as assigned. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Preferred Qualifications Some college

1-year office, reception, or customer service experience, experience working with confidential information.

Working at a previous testing center and familiarity with SLCC a plus. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (ability to read, speak and write English).

Must be able to work scheduled hours

Ability to sit for long periods.

Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, walk, and position self to move constantly to access and maintain exam / files in cabinets.

Excellent organizational skills.

Basic computer skills.

Dependability and reliability a must.

Must be detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.

Must be team-oriented and possess the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.

Able to anticipate needs and manage time wisely.

Ability to perform duties with limited supervision.

Ability to manage conflict in a calm and effective manner.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be familiar with general office methods and techniques including filing systems.
  • Knowledge of college policies, procedures, operations, and information system helpful.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
