REGIONAL NURSE CONSULTANT ASSISTED LIVING DIVISION

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Nurse Consultant (RNC) position is critical to ensuring Americare delivers on its promise of being a provider of choice in Senior Living.

In this role, Regional Nurse Consultants ensure residents have the best quality of life by educating and monitoring performance of Americare’s Flourish wellness program, built on the ICCA Seven Dimensions of Wellness.

RNCs also develop and monitor clinical compliance with state and federal regulations. This role audits resident records to ensure quality of care, adherence to policies and procedures, and assists with completing plans of corrections when regulatory citations are issued.

Additionally, the Consultant coaches and develops Directors of Nursing via mentorship, orientation support, offering virtual trainings, participating in investigations, and providing virtual and on-site consultation support as needed.

This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Regional Nurse Consultant will act as a nurse mentor and advisor to our Assisted Living operations team and community leadership by :

  • Assisting in Director of Nursing orientation and training, by being available for consultation,
  • Establishing training plans and executing training for a wide range of individuals with various experience levels including Director of Nursing and / or front-line roles,
  • Keeping current with medical and nursing care processes, and changes in health care delivery systems and methods,
  • Providing clinical information to community leadership,
  • Notifying timely the Regional Director of Operation (RDO) or Vice President of Operations of events which pose potential compliance and / or litigation risk,
  • At the direction of the RDO and / or Vice President, assisting community leadership in managing, investigating, or providing follow-up education related to such events,
  • Communicating routinely and effectively with the RDO regarding community clinical, performance, site visit schedules, survey activity, events or other clinically relevant information,
  • Assisting in nurse recruitment and retention efforts,
  • Participating in the interview and selection processes for community nursing leadership positions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Compliance and Auditing :
  • Audit resident records to ensure quality of care and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Assist in completing plans of correction for regulatory citations.
  • Wellness Program :
  • Embrace and promote wellness programs to enhance residents' quality of life.
  • Educate and monitor the seven dimensions of wellness.
  • Training and Support :
  • Coordinate training and private support to the Directors of Nursing.
  • Offer virtual training sessions for Directors of Nursing and direct line staff on policies, procedures, and dementia care for memory care locations.
  • Collaborate with the Regional support nurse to support clinical excellence.
  • Investigations and On-Call Support :
  • Participate in investigations concerning resident and clinical concerns as requested by the Vice President.
  • Assume on-call responsibilities for nursing issues when Director of Nursing positions are vacant or as requested.
  • Assist with resident discharges and Transfers :
  • Conduct resident at-risk reviews and assist with discharges and transfers as needed.
  • On-Site Support :
  • Provide on-site support at least annually to ensure compliance and more frequently as requested by the Vice President of Operations.
  • Collaboration :
  • Collaborate with the Regional Director of Operations, Administrators, Directors of Nursing, and Regional Support Nurses.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of a state-approved school of nursing as a registered nurse.
  • Five years’ experience in long-term care (preferred), two years’ experience in a nurse management position in long term care (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Federal and MO / KS / TN / MS / IL regulations for Assisted Living as determined by region.
  • Applies state and federal regulations to develop policies and procedures for Assisted Living Division.
  • Provides guidance, coaching and leadership to others.
  • Acts as a role model of company customer service model and team values (Hometown Hospitality and RISING).
  • Computer skills necessary to complete tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to conduct and lead meetings.
  • Ability to develop leadership and people skills in others through training and acting as a role model in the division.
  • Must have current driver’s license, a good driving record and reliable transportation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Travel is required to various facilities, conferences, and meetings and may include overnight stays. This is an exempt position with core working hours week of Monday through Friday, 8-5, and required additional hours based on the amount of time necessary to perform the job responsibilities including on-call, emergencies, and travel time.

Physical Demands :

This position must have the ability to handle computer tasks of some complexity in a variety or an independent and responsible manner.

The must also have the ability to work accurately and efficiently with attention to detail while following protocol. This role needs to have a full understanding and ability to utilize a computer and learn required software as designated by company protocol.

Employee must also have an understanding and ability to follow all regulations and policies by the State and Board of Directors.

  • Employee must have communication skills to be able to interact with Home Health and Americare staff. The physical demands of this position include;
  • Standing, sitting, walking, changing of position, reaching, extending hands arms, reach across midline, crouching, balancing, kneeling, stooping, bending, lifting or carrying 35lbs push and pull 100 lbs.

Sensory Demands :

  • Auditory : to hear and understand verbal request,
  • Visually : be able to read necessary information to complete work tasks,
  • Verbally : communicate with customers and others on your team

Safety Equipment :

It is mandatory to follow safety policies and procedures including use carts when moving items as well as all personal protective equipment.

Rather than lift heavy objects, break down items to smaller quantity.

  • Use of seatbelt when operating or traveling in a car. No use of cell phone when operating a motor vehicle.
  • Mandatory reporting of all work-related injuries within 12 hours to supervisor with participation in required documentation.
  • Participation in our drug testing procedures is a mandatory part of employment with this facility.

OSHA Exposure :

Category II, which is characterized as employees who routinely do not perform tasks that involve exposure to blood and body fluids and or tissue however in certain situations, may be placed in category I.
