Primary Purpose :

Traveling School-Based Physical Therapist to provide high-quality physical therapy services to students across multiple schools within the International Leadership of Texas Charter System.

This role involves evaluating, treating, and supporting students with physical disabilities or challenges that impact their educational experience.

As a traveling therapist, you will be responsible for servicing several schools, working closely with educational teams, students, and families to develop and implement individualized treatment plans to promote students' success in school..

Qualifications :

Education / Certification :

Master's or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program

Special Knowledge / Skills :

  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist in Texas.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible travel schedule.
  • Familiarity with special education processes, including IEP development.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of assistive devices and their applications in educational settings.

Experience :

Experience working with children in a school setting or pediatric physical therapy is preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Assessment & Evaluation : Conduct thorough physical therapy assessments of students referred for evaluation to determine needs related to motor skills, mobility, and access to the educational environment.
  • Intervention Planning & Implementation : Develop individualized treatment plans (IEPs) to address students’ physical needs in the educational setting, including strength, balance, posture, mobility, coordination, and gross motor skills.
  • Direct Therapy : Provide direct physical therapy services to students on a regular basis, focusing on the goals and objectives outlined in their IEP.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with teachers, special education staff, school nurses, administrators, and parents to ensure physical therapy interventions are aligned with educational goals.
  • Traveling to Schools : Visit multiple schools across the district on a rotating schedule, ensuring that students at various locations receive consistent services.
  • Training & Support : Educate school staff on positioning, mobility, and accessibility to enhance the integration of students with physical disabilities into the school setting.
  • Documentation & Reporting : Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of therapy sessions, student progress, and assessments.

Prepare reports for IEP meetings and maintain compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • Assistive Equipment : Recommend, fit, and monitor the use of assistive devices (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, adaptive seating) to improve student accessibility and participation in school activities.
  • Professional Development : Stay current with best practices, attend workshops, and contribute to the ongoing development of therapy services across the district.

Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors :

  • Ability to travel between schools within the district (reliable transportation is required).
  • Frequent standing, walking, and lifting during therapy sessions.
  • Ability to carry therapy equipment and supplies.

Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Any PT accessories or tools needed.

Posture : Prolonged sitting; occasional bending / stooping, pushing / pulling, and twisting

Motion : Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying moderate weight

Environment : May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
