PURPOSE

Perform advanced laboratory techniques related to viral vector production and analytics. Basic laboratory techniques include preparing solutions, media, molecular biology techniques, aseptic cell culture techniques and general laboratory maintenance.

The position requires working independently, but also under the supervision of experienced lab personnel in process development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Perform hands on laboratory procedures related to viral vector production and characterization, specifically cell culture maintenance activities such as cell culture initiation, subculturing, media prep, and cell counting
• Sample management
• Maintain appropriate documentation of processing activities, including quality control of written and electronic data
• Handle and track inventory
• Perform routine lab maintenance and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Train new staff members and fellow hourly employees in designated processes
• Comply with all established policies and SOPs
• Participate actively in SOP revisions in coordination with supervisor and Quality Assurance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate or B.S. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or similar field
• 1+ years of relevant industry experience in R&D, product development, or operations
• Experience with aseptic technique, BSL 2 / 2.5 environment, cell culture, and molecular biology
• Excellent computer, verbal, and written communication skills
• High level of organization; detail oriented
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
• Precision pipetting

Work Environment

• Frequently required to work in a BSL 2 environment with personal protective equipment / aseptic gowning
• Regularly required to work around large machinery and typical utilities seen in pharmaceutical facilities
• Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; hazardous waste; and risk of electrical shock
• Occasionally exposed to extremely loud noise levels
• Spending time on the floor during activity execution (maintenance, construction, commissioning and qualification) is required Movement
