Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician performs routine tasks at the direction of a pharmacist including processing prescription information, filling prescriptions, filing forms, processing patient transactions and overseeing inventory.
The pharmacy technician must be fluent in Spanish.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greets customers in person or over the telephone and assists customers with new and refill prescriptions, answers customers’ questions, and resolving customers’ complaints.
- Reviews prescriptions for accuracy and completeness. Processes prescription information in the computer per insurance and CCHS guidelines.
- Establishes and maintains patient profiles and records on computer using Pharmacy software.
- Prepares prescriptions at the direction of the pharmacist by counting, pouring, weighing, and or measuring medications.
Selects appropriate container and affixes correct labels.
- Accepts and gives prescription information according to State law and CCHS policy
- Uses point-of-sale equipment to record sale of prescriptions and collects proper payments according to Pharmacy guidelines.
- Asks patients if they want to be counseled on their medications and refers them to pharmacist, if needed.
- Refers customer to pharmacist on duty when the patient requires prescription counseling, in accordance with state law or as directed by pharmacist.
- Completes customer transactions on the cash register, verifying customer information (correcting, as needed) and collecting customer payments.
- Contacts customers by phone to pick up prescriptions.
- Reconciles and balances cash drawer, prepares end-of-day reports, and prepares deposit and change order.
- Cancels medications which have not been picked up in the allotted hold time per policy.
- Ensures the appearance of the store is pleasing to customers and meets the requirements of the Corporate Office, performing required housekeeping tasks.
- Stocks medications and takes inventories at the direction of a pharmacist. Orders medications as need.
- Performs other duties, as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education : High school and must be able to fluently speak Spanish.
Experience : At least one year experience as a Pharmacy Technician
Licenses or Certifications : Incumbents must be licensed with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy. Pharmacy Technician certificate required from program accepted by the TN Board of Pharmacy.
Mental Requirements
Level 1 Requires some concentration and normal attention. Generally, once the job is learned, the tasks can be performed more or less automatically.
Level 2 Requires high periods of concentration intermittently and normal attention. Generally, even once the job is learned, tasks will require normal attention to deal with recurring variables.
Level 3 Requires a high level of concentration and high level of attention intermittently. Generally, the approach to tasks may be consistent, but the number of steps required and / or the number of variables involved creates the possibility of errors unless the incumbent pays close attention.
