Job Description Summary

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Specialist II to join our team. As a Laboratory Technologist III, you will be responsible for performing moderate and high complexity testing.

You will work under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager or Director, ensuring accurate and timely execution of laboratory protocols and procedures related to the clinical molecular pathology and genomics laboratory.

Knowledge of molecular biology techniques, such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and sequencing including next generation sequencing (NGS) is recommended and working experience and understanding of molecular bioinformatic pipelines, accreditation requirements, and lab quality protocols and procedures is preferred.

In addition, direct liaison with the bioinformatics team including cooperative data entry and review as well as a cooperative technical relationship with members of the Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics laboratory in test validation and genetic and genomic variant scientific analysis is preferred.

You should be prepared to assure and adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

Willingness and ability to teach trainees at every level of experience in testing strategy, procedure, and theory is preferred.

Prior experience in developing and operationalizing laboratory developed tests (LDTs) is preferred. Follow all applicable regulations, guidelines, and accreditation requirements, including those set by regulatory agencies such as CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and CAP (College of American Pathologists).

This is a temporary position with a full-time schedule (1.0 FTE) with an estimated 2-year term. A bachelor's degree in a health-related field and one year journey-level work experience in the specialty area; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a health-related field and two years advanced work experience in the specialty area.

A master's degree in a health-related field and six months entry-level experience may be substituted for the requirements stated above.

Previous technical supervisory work experience is required for supervisory positions.
