The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Degree Program and Graduate Admissions and Recruiting Specialist to join their team.

The Degree Program and Graduate Admissions and Recruiting Specialist is a key team member for operation of the School of Nursing’s graduate programs (Master of Nursing, Master of Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Philosophy, as well as graduate certificate programs and Graduate Non-Matriculated status).

This position facilitates the School’s graduate program admission process and speaks to prospective applicants as part of the School’s recruiting efforts.

This position serves approximately 500 full-time and part-time graduate applicants and students annually. This position requires a thorough understanding of the complexities of the School’s various degree programs, graduate education, and UW Graduate School policies.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES

The Degree Program and Graduate Admissions and Recruiting Specialist provides leadership in admissions processing and is responsible for designing and implementing the School’s graduate admissions processes.

Involvement in these processes requires a level of complexity with both administrative implementation as well as careful communication with applicants to explain the School’s admissions and to recruit strong potential candidates.

This position also works with a variety of populations and must be able to adjust communication skills and information dissemination based on the appropriate audience.

The audience ranges from diverse, sophisticated applicants in research and complex management level nursing positions interested in doctoral education to high school students interested in a career in health care without any knowledge of the different health care provider roles.

POSITION DIMENSION AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY

Under the general direction of the Director for Admissions and Student Diversity, the Degree Program and Graduate Admissions and Recruiting Specialist provides advising services and support to School of Nursing graduate applicants, advising them on Graduate School and SON policies throughout the application process.

The Degree Program and Graduate Admissions and Recruiting Specialist is a key member of the advising team for the School of Nursing graduate admissions committees.

This position includes participation in the development and maintenance of procedures to facilitate satisfaction of all graduate admissions requirements, alumni degree verifications, and serving as a school liaison to the Graduate School.

The individual in this position represents the department to multiple external audiences within and beyond the school. This role is central to the strategic development of the School’s operations and prospective and current student services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Graduate Program Admissions, Management (75%) :

  • Respond to applicant inquiries from potential MS, DNP, PhD, Certificate, and GNM applicants.
  • Lead admissions review process and preliminary reviews of all MS, DNP, PhD, Certificate and GNM applications, including faculty orientation to review and scoring criteria and admissions guidelines.
  • Carefully review and assess existing program, school, & university policies; suggest solutions to vague and outdated or incorrect program & school policies.
  • Draft policies for motions passed by DNP and PhD committees.
  • Monitor and generate Graduate School admission system reports as needed.
  • Develop and maintain graduate applications in the Graduate School’s admission system for all tracks and degree program applications.
  • Initiate and lead the transition and maintenance of application to graduate student files.

Prospective Graduate Student Recruitment (15%) :

  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions and Student Diversity and the Manager of Student Recruitment to develop and implement the School’s master graduate recruiting plan.
  • Represent the School of Nursing's academic programs at local and national student recruitment events.
  • Provide ongoing contact with health care agencies and other targeted and diverse populations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and staff programs that represent the School's educational options to the UW campus, larger Puget Sound region, State of Washington, and the US Focus recruitment efforts.
  • Meet with prospective students interested in the various graduate degree programs (DNP, MS-CIPCT, PhD, Graduate Certificates) to discuss the School’s graduate degree offerings and how the prospective students can effectively assemble their applications.

Office of Student and Academic Affairs Support (10%) :

Manage student files and Records Management archives. Respond and lead requests for former student degree verifications.

Receive and process quarterly clinical evaluations. Participate as a key member of the Office of Student and Academic Affairs unit, including the Convocation and New Student Orientation team and leading Graduate Admissions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Baccalaureate degree AND 2 years of experience in a higher education setting in advising or student services.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 years of experience in a higher education setting.
  • Master’s degree in higher education related fields or similar.
  • Thorough knowledge of School of Nursing, Graduate School, and UW policies.
  • Experience interacting effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds at all levels of the University and community.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, attention to detail, and ability to organize public events.
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, meet deadlines, ability to exercise sound judgment and independent decisions.
  • Proficient with current technology and UW systems such as Slate, SDB, EARS, Salesforce and Canvas.
