Job Description
Alabama State University, Business and Finance, invites qualified applications for the position of Director of Accounting / Associate Comptroller.
This position will manage the Accounting Services function of the University by ensuring that principles of accounting are applied using accepted accounting practices so that financial transactions and documentations are accomplished in an efficient and timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Supervise activities of employees assigned to Accounting Services by ascertaining that the following task are performed in a timely manner : preparation of monthly profit and loss statements for relevant functions of auxiliary enterprises, preparation of quarterly financial reports, preparation of financial statements for university administrators, reconciliation of bank and investments accounts, ensure that all data is properly captured in the Financial System
- Actively participates in any changes and updates to Financial Accounting System
- Prepares and manages the budget for Accounting Services
- Reviews and approves all entries to the general ledger
- Coordinates with student financial aid to ensure that funds from the various financial aid funding agencies are properly dispersed and accounted for
- Verifies that subsidiary ledger balances agree with the general ledger, that cash receipts are properly counted, and that accountant numbers are correct
- Attends meetings, workshops, and seminars as deemed necessary by the Comptroller
- Prepares performance evaluations reports on subordinates
- Coordinates with carious audit agencies during auditing of financial records
- Holds responsibility for implementation of any new Accounting standards and procedures applicable to College and Universities
- Preforms other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 10 years of relate work experience, or a Master's degree in Account or MBA with 5 years of related work experience.
Must have working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures as related to colleges and universities, must have the ability to apply accounting knowledge to complex accounting problems and formulate a solution in a timely manner, and have supervisory experience. CPA preferred.
