Department Summary
The Department of Biology is an instructional and research department within the College of Arts and Sciences that supports significant research activities in a wide range of fields in the Biology discipline including neuroscience, genetics, cell and developmental biology, evolution, ecology, and marine biology.
The Department includes approximately 50 teaching faculty, emeritus faculty, graduate students, and professional / administrative staff.
The Department enrolls approximately 1,200 biology majors and 100 graduate students.

Position Summary
The Biology Department seeks to create a pool of applicants interested in available research positions in biological sciences.
Positions are a limited duration, funding-contingent postdoctoral or research assistant / associate appointments that may be full-time, part-time, or short-term, with initial duration not to exceed one year.
There may be a possibility of renewal up to a total of three years, depending on program needs, funding, and performance.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum qualifications by rank :
- Research Assistant (Type B) : Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field
- Senior Research Assistant I (Type B) : Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post degree
- Senior Research Assistant II (Type B) : Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post degree
- Research Assistant (Type C) : Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field
- Senior Research Assistant I (Type C) : Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post degree
- Senior Research Assistant II (Type C) : Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post degree
- Postdoctoral Scholar : Doctoral degree in biology, chemistry, or related field
- Research Associate : Terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field
- Senior Research Associate I : Terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post degree
- Senior Research Associate II : Terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post degree
