GENERAL INTRODUCTION :
Each position employed with CYO Camps helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE :
To plan, direct, and supervise the garden as an extension of a classroom in an outdoor setting; allowing students to discover a sense of self, and appreciation of others and God’s creation.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES :
1. Implement faith development programs and transmit the beauty of the Catholic faith and sacramental life to campers.
2. Plan and plant a variety of plants using a variety of strategies in the garden
3. Tend and care for a ½ acre garden, greenhouse and compost system.
4. Plan and provide instructional garden lessons to students using established curriculum and resources.
5. Assist in teaching staff their responsibilities in activity area during staff training.
6. Take Discovery Lodge compost to the garden compost station as needed.
7. Lead afternoon and night activities with students including morning and evening prayer, campfire programming, and mass or prayer services.
8. Demonstrate servant leadership through general camp support- high ropes facilitation, kitchen and facilities clean-up, luggage transportation, etc.
9. Participate in post session camp clean-up.
10. Evaluate current season and make recommendations for equipment supplies, and program for following season.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
Primary :
a. Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
b. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in
support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
c. Active member in the sacramental life of a parish / faith community in good standing with the Church preferred.
d. A good example for youth in appearance, attitudes, as well as in moral, ethical and spiritual behavior
e. Ability to share passion for God’s Creation within lessons and community of participants and staff.
Education :
a. HS Diploma or significant qualifying experience; some college coursework preferred.
Experience :
a. Demonstrated experience in a variety of program areas that relate to organic gardening is preferred.
Other Elements :
a. Commitment to the mission and values of CYO Camps.
b. Enthusiasm for living, working, and praying in community.
c. Strong communication skills, with an ability to work with individuals and groups
d. Current CPR / First aid required or willingness to obtain prior to season.
e. Ability to work outside in a variety of weather for long periods.
f. Must possess a valid Washington state driver’s license and a clean driving record.
g. Ability to work evenings and / or weekends and live on site in rustic facilities while programs are in session.
h. Preferred age is 21 years old.
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
