A Transport TMS Specialist will work with multiple North American Power Grids factories to prepare and ensure a high level of service and cost-effective movement for both inbound and outbound shipments through Transportation Management System (TMS).
The environment is fast paced with constantly changing demands and requires on-going attention to customer requirements, balancing of transport requests with available transport options, and real time communication of service issues with shippers and receivers.
The position requires making decisions which impact cost and service on a constant basis with minimal review and requires a broad range of transportation knowledge plus ability to manage transportation network utilizing TMS focusing on optimization, rate management, reporting and analysis, TMS Super User for training along with supporting Power Grids factories as required.
Your responsibilities
- Lead TMS roll out project for Power Grids and once implemented oversee daily optimization of all modes and multi-segment (e.g. stop-offs) shipments
- Work in partnership with Power Grids factory staff on manufacturing schedules for transportation optimization by order by mode, achieve savings targets and transportation planning is properly executed ensuring performance metrics are met
- Interface with TMS provider and Users to maintain all aspects of TMS i.e routing guide, onboarding new users for in and outbound (Vendors and PG Users), TMS training, support SOP creation and updates along with spot quote process
- Support process as required for completing and submitting the Risk Control Notification to Global insurance for all Heavy Lift Project shipments.
Knowledge of Supply Chain activities and impact to logistics
- Monitor TMS to ensure shipments are executed in a timely manner to support factory production schedules for both inbound and outbound
- Understands different planning techniques including the functionality of transport management systems and load planning tools.
Local transport market knowledge including equipment, port and airport operations as well as relevant restrictions and regulations
Support transportation sourcing events and freight projects as required. Provide back-up support to factories when needed.
Understand international / cross border shipping requirements and incoterms when working with Freight Forwarders and Brokers
Develop and oversee TMS tolerance process related to accessorial charges. Prepare Freight Savings and Ad Hoc reports and ability to justify cost overruns should they occur.
Support process for sending TMS freight pay reports to 3rd party freight pay provider
Your background
- Bachelors degree in supply chain or logistics management and 2+ years of experience in transportation / supply chain. Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi ABB Power Grids in the United States
- Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple time sensitive tasks in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently with a sense of urgency
- Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with customers as well as TMS provider personnel. Knowledge of transportation rules and regulations is a plus
- Advanced desktop computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook required. Experience in working with advanced TMS platforms such as Oracle TM, JDA TMS, INET, etc. preferred
- Team player with flexibility in working different shifts. Self-managed to meet organizational goals
- 2-4 years related experience in domestic trucking (LTL / FTL shipping / freight forwarding preferred)
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills
