Registered Nurse (RN) - General Medicine Inpatient Unit for Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Portsmouth, Virginia

The General Medicine Unit provides comprehensive, integrated specialty and subspecialty internal medicine care to adults in an inpatient setting.

Qualifications :

• Associate Degree of Nursing or higher from an NLNAC, CCNE accredited program, or State Board of Nursing accredited nursing program
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an RN working in an inpatient medical / surgical setting within the last two (2) years
• Possession and maintenance of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any of the 50 States, DC, or U.S. Territories
• Must be a U.S. Citizen (for access to Government computer systems)

Responsibilities :

• Provide direct patient care and promote interdisciplinary teamwork
• Implement comprehensive plans of care based on the nursing process, considering emotional and discharge planning needs of patients
• Collaborate in interdisciplinary rounds to address patient needs across the continuum of care and revise care plans based on patient response
• Respond quickly and appropriately to changes in patients' conditions, taking a leadership role in emergency situations
• Ensure proper use of equipment and report malfunctions to the supervisor
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and encourage two-way communication with colleagues and patients
• Adhere to established documentation protocols
• Provide wound management, nutritional guidance, and psychological support to patients and families
• Deliver effective teaching appropriate to the audience's level of understanding
• Offer emotional support and crisis intervention to patients and families
• Operate and navigate automated systems such as CHCS, AHLTA, ADS, Essentris, and Clinical Information System (CIS)

Work Schedule :

• Full-time position, 80 hr / two weeks, with shifts between 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM
• Nurses work six 12.5 hr shifts and one 8 hr shift per two-week period
• Coverage positions, allowing self-scheduling for day or night shifts
