About The Position

Weekly Pay Range - $1881 To $2090 Job Title : Surgical Technician Job Specialty : Surgical Technology Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Days, 0700-1700, 4x10 Hr Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : One year of experience in a surgical setting preferred.

Experience in a specialty field preferred. License : For Colorado applicants, registration indicating compliance with Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies Certifications : - Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association - Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBTSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Must-Have : - Basic computer skills - Ability to provide on-call coverage outside standard scheduled hours per department and policy Job Description : - Work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN - Assist surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying the sterile set-up of instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases and passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed - Assist in preparing and moving patients, and sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms - Use physician preference card to identify supplies and equipment needed for scheduled surgical or emergency procedures and update preference cards with necessary changes - Set up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications / solutions needed for the procedure - Prepare solutions and medications used, properly label, and report amounts used for charting - Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating surgeon's needs using the preference card - Provide supplies or equipment upon request for the surgeon, nurses, and / or anesthesiologist - Assist with draping a sterile field and covering operating and instrument tables - Perform appropriate counts with the circulator before incision closure and as needed - Deliver surgical specimens / cultures from the operative field to circulating nurse - Maintain highest standard of sterile technique during procedures - Prepare and sterilize supplies and equipment used in surgical procedures - Review and replace supplies in the surgical case following a procedure, and discard expired medications per protocol - Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room and prep room for the next patient - Hold retractors or instruments, sponge or suction operative sites, apply electrocautery to clamps on bleeders, cut suture materials, connect drains to suction apparatus, and apply dressings to wounds - Communicate effectively with surgeons and nursing staff - Anticipate potential problems or complications during cases and adjust quickly to prepare for emergent cases - Maintain efficiency under stress and with irregular working hours - Adhere to department procedures and acceptable protocols - Apply knowledge of the dress code related to Standard Precautions and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) - Report life safety issues, environmental concerns, or process deviations to the immediate supervisor - Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research activities - Engage in professional and program development by attending department in-services, meetings and sharing professional expertise to enhance quality of patient care and staff development - Demonstrate effective time management and be proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements - Adapt to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census, and staffing through priority setting and flexibility - Floating may be required to other locations within sixty (60) miles, which may include duties outside original assignment job requirements in accordance with policy
