This announcement covers vacancies in multiple units / clinics within the Northeast Ohio VA Health Care System. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification / licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are : United States Citizenship : Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 (d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant : The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who achieve the level in their education in which they have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program.

Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on a temporary basis for any period up to three years contingent upon full completion of the professional nursing education program, if education verification provided by the school supports the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) equivalency.

Upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program, the Nurse may be converted to a permanent appointment under the provisions of section 7401(a)(1) of title 38.

Failure to complete the bridge program on which the temporary appointment was based will result in termination of the appointment.

Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing who possess a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associate degree level Nursing education program.

In order to grant credit towards an appointment based on foreign nursing education higher than the associate degree level, formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency accepted by VA such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD) must be obtained.

Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (, Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience : -Varies by Nursing Service Area and actual vacancy Grade Determinations : The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade : Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice / experience required.

Nurse I Level II - Diploma or associate degree in nursing and one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to a Nurse I, Level 1;

OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice / experience. Nurse I Level III - Diploma or associate degree in nursing and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which is a year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 2.

OR Bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of professional nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 2.; OR Master's degree in nursing and no professional nursing experience.

OR Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with no professional nursing experience. Nurse II - Bachelor's degree in nursing and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which is a year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3.

OR Master's degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3; OR Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3;

OR Doctorate degree in nursing with no professional nursing experience; OR Doctorate degree in a related field with a master's or bachelor's degree in nursing with no professional nursing experience.

  • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing with two years of specialized nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III;
  • OR Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with two years of specialized nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III;
  • OR Doctorate degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III;

OR Doctorate degree in a related field with a master's or bachelor's degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III.

Physical Requirements : Applicant must possess the ability to do the following : heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over;

pulling, pushing and reaching above the shoulder; potentially long periods of walking, standing, kneeling and repeated bending.

  • Community Living Center, Hospice, and Short-term Rehab; Spinal Cord Injury Unit; Inpatient Psychiatry (Geriatric or Acute);
  • Outpatient Mental Health; Continuous Veno-Venous Hemodialysis; Primary Care Clinics; Geriatric Extended Care Units; Community Care;

Float Pool, Infusion Clinic, and other Specialty Areas. Please note, this announcement does not cover our Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

  • As a Staff Nurse you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition;
  • collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and / or behavior problems;

and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.
