Summary :

Collaborates with Chief of psychiatry and inpatient Care Services, Behavioral Health leadership in the overall operations of the departments to include staff performance appraisals, annual competencies, monitor monthly budgets, patient satisfaction outcomes, throughput from ED to inpatient, and development of policies and procedures to improve delivery of patient care. Coordinates and provides supervision to all crisis services, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), and inpatient psychiatric unit social workers and activities therapists. Monitors Putnam County Department of Mental Health grant for Crisis Intervention, and data collection of volumes for Crisis Services. Serves as community liaison to multiple outside agencies to enhance the delivery of care. Routinely involved in community-wide transition projects & enhancements of hospital-wide best practices citing evidenced based approach.

Responsibilities :

1. Responsible for assessments of patients in the Emergency Department (ED) during routine shifts inclusive of developing appropriate discharge plans or completion of all insurance authorization when inpatient admission is warranted. Frequent consult to Emergency Department by Crisis staff when complex issues arise.

2. Manages all aspects of crisis assessments ensuring each patient has a robust safety plan if discharged. Ensures Psychiatrist is informed of all cases and communicates with inpatient psychiatric unit staff for those requiring admission onto unit. Facilitates outside transfers when warranted. Directly involved in all aspects of hiring, orientation, and supervision of a multidisciplinary staff.

3. Oversees insurance verifications and pre-certifications. Contacts insurance companies directly and verbally presents criteria for admission.

4. Provides clinical and administrative supervision of all direct reports, including licensed social workers and activity therapist. In collaboration with the Director, conducts probationary and annual performance reviews and provides staff counseling and discipline. (Total 12 - Span of Control)

5. Conducts routine monthly staff scheduling / entering schedule in timekeeping system. Monitors time and attendance. Reviews clinical documentation for compliance; full chart audits as necessary, and community outreach with regulatory mental health agencies / representing Crisis Intervention, PHP, and the psychiatric inpatient unit in the community. Attends monthly Putnam County Mental Health meetings. Including, but not limited to, The Providers Meetings, Tier II, CAC, Suicide Task Force, Prevention Council of Putnam, MHA of Putnam, Cove Care, Disaster Mental Health, and Bridge Alliance.

6. Oversees staff training and education, new computer systems and software, service-specific policies and procedures, and orientation of new staff to service. Coordinates education for staff regarding annual competency and facilities all new training initiatives (Collects and records corresponding data to support Putnam County grant).

7. Collaborates with Chief of psychiatry and Director of Patient care services, Behavioral Health in fiscal management of all budgets and strategic planning. Collects and records corresponding data to support Putnam County Crisis grant.

8. Collaborates with chief of psychiatry, in the development of new policies and procedures to improve delivery of patient care across the service line and collaborate with performance improvement projects for all assigned departments and within the Department of Psychiatry.

9. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

10. Conducts monthly staff meetings.

11. Maintains and models Nuvance Health values. Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.

12. Serves as a resource to other areas of the hospital as well as outside stakeholders.

13. Maintains accountability for clinical competency, professional growth and development, and the professional ethics of clinical practice.

14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required : This position requires a minimum formal education a master's degree in social work from an accredited school. Preferred LCSW in state where they will work, will accept LMSW (must take and pass LCSW within 8 months of hire). Preferred supervisory or management experience.

Minimum Experience : four years or more

Desired : Organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory and management skills. Experience in a regulatory compliance driven organization. Valid Driver's license.
