JOB DESCRIPTION : LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE / PARAPROFESSIONAL

POSITION SUMMARY :
This position provides direct nursing services and health related training to district staff and students. A paraprofessional works to assist a teacher throughout their daily classroom activities.
Some of the duties include helping schedule and implement programs in accordance with the curriculum as well as general classroom and clerical duties such as maintaining a clean and safe environment or printing and preparing educational material.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT :
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Practical Nurse, Licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
- Have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education defined as completion of 48 semester hours of college coursework; or.
- Have obtained an associate's degree (or higher); or have taken and passed the WorkKeys test, Parapro Test or the Oklahoma General Education Test.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to develop appropriate individual educational programs. (IEP)
- Assist students with daily tasks as directed by the teacher.
- Assists teachers with conducting lessons, managing the classroom and developing materials.
- Give Medications and Tube Feedings following physician orders and as scheduled on IHSP
- Give treatments such as suctioning following physician orders and as scheduled on IHSP.
- Charts tasks, medications, etc., in a timely manner and using proper forms.
- Individual tutoring with students
- Collaborate with site RN and District Health Coordinator regarding health-related issues of students.
- Additional duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS :
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
REASONING ABILITY :
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.
To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and / or office buildings.
An employee's eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his / her role and responsibilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
