36 hour PACU clinical leader position As Registered Nurses (RNs) at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital our every action is guided by knowledge, enabled by skill and motivated by compassion.

The Clinical Leader is responsible for the quality of nursing care for a designated clinical area. She / he directs and evaluates all staff within the clinical area.

The Clinical Leader coordinates patient flow and the efficient use of human, fiscal, and environmental resources. The CL serves as a nursing resource and role model for the nursing, clerical, and support staff.

She / he establishes effective collaborative relations with other members of the health care teams and support service staff.

She / he collaborates with the Nursing Director along as well as Materials Management, Buildings and Grounds, Biomedical Engineering, and all other support services to ensure that the clinical area is equipped, supplied, and properly prepared for patients, anesthesiologists and surgeons.

The CL participates in unit-based Quality Improvement activities, particularly as they relate to patients in their designated services.

The CL collaborates with the Perioperative leadership team on development opportunities for staff. Clinical Practice - Establishes an environment that is patient-focused, safe, and conductive to staff development - All patient care responsibilities will be performed consistent with age-specific criteria - Assists the staff in the provision of nursing care, using, but not limited to, the philosophy of Patient Care Services and ASPAN Standards of Nursing Practice as a basis for care - Collaborates with staff, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and leadership from other areas to optimize the flow of patients.

Collaborates with staff, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and others to develop and maintain standards of care - Establishes effective accountability systems to assure that Patient Care standards are met - Is competent in the staff nurse and resource nurse roles, serving as a clinical role model for the nursing staff - Assess the effectiveness of the patient care through direct observation and supervision of the staff Resource Management - Plans weekly work schedule for all personnel within the Clinical area, ensuring adequate staffing - Assigns nurses and support staff to patients, considering knowledge and skills in generic and specialty competencies - Conducts periodic conferences to guide, develop, and evaluate staff performances - Makes decisions that support appropriate use of human, fiscal, and environmental resources for patient care - Collaborates with other CLs to promote consistency within the perioperative areas, including organization of supplies and equipment, the application of policies and procedures, and staff development opportunities - Takes appropriate action to adjust work schedules to meet volume and staff needs - Interviews and hires candidates and collaborates with PDM to facilitate staff orientation.

Leadership - Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration through effective communications and negotiations - Interprets and communicates to staff members all changes in standards of care, nursing practice activities, and Hospital and departmental policies and procedures - Investigates incidents and / or complaints and initiates action, working with the Nurse Director as appropriate for problem solving - Communicates and documents pertinent incidents, actions, and follow-up to the Nurse Director in a timely manner - Coordinates problem-solving activities with the staff and arranges meetings as needed - Conducts staff meetings at least bi- monthly - Conducts annual performance appraisals for staff with input from colleagues - Participates in Quality Improvement activities within the unit and within the service - Fosters an environment where interdisciplinary collaboration related to patient care needs are paramount - Ensures a practice environment that maintains high professional standards of clinical care and conduct Professional Development - Works with the PACU Leadership Group to ensure that staff achieve competency in generic and specialty knowledge skills - Participates in competency-based orientation for all new staff - Provides support to preceptors - Evaluates effectiveness of orientation program - Promotes professional development of staff through the Clinical Recognition Program and other appropriate mechanisms - Assists the Professional Development Manager and Nurse Director in coordinating student assignments and evaluating student performances while in the Clinical unit - Applies knowledge of current and relevant issues and changes in nursing, social and medical science to improve patient care and foster staff development - Participates in and promotes professional research - Performs other related duties as directed About Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital : Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham, is committed to supporting patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community.

BSN required. - 5years PACU experience required. - Massachusetts Registered Nurse Licensure required. - ACLS required.

CPAN preferred. - Adheres to all I.C.A.R.E. standards. - The RN must show evidence of the basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of patients.

  • Must demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities. - Must be able to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time / priority management.
