JOB SUMMARY

AtHouston Methodist the CT Technologist II position is responsiblefor completing a variety of routine to complex diagnostic CTprocedures to include common and special CT exams of highdifficulty.

This position is a member of the direct patient careteam and is fully competent in all aspects of computed tomography(CT) scanning.

This CT Technologist II position serves as a mentorto CT Technologist I and students by utilizing skills and knowledgeto help train and educate others.

This position works independentlyby exercising sound judgment and executing above average clinicalskills on challenging diagnostic procedures and patient caresituations.

The CT Technologist II position provides directassistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special CTprocedures. This position delivers exceptional patient care andadheres to radiation standards and guidelines established bygoverning agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customerservice.

SERVICE30%

• Performs diagnostic radiologyprocedures to include common and special CT exams. CT exams usexray images and computer processing to generate pictures of tissuedensities through the patients body.(EF)
• Proactively assesses identifies andresponds to the needs of the patient for adjustment or interventionto optimize patient care image quality and patient experience.

Thisincludes : positioning physiology procedure preparation andtechnical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve desiredimaging results and recognizes complications and limitationsassociated with certain procedures.(EF)

• Provides direct assistance to physiciansduring diagnostic or special CT procedures including assisting withsterile technique. (EF)
• Provides accurateexplanations and instructions to patients and family members at anappropriate level utilizing verbal and nonverbal skills terminologyand language. (EF)

QUALITY / SAFETY30%

Follows safety standards andconducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Uses ALARA (as low asreasonably achievable) to protect patients staff and general publicand follows radiation safety standards Maintains proper steriletechniques for procedures regularly practices aseptic techniquesand ensures compliance with infection control procedures.

Complieswith job role department and hospital safety standards practicesand policies. (EF)

Identifies opportunities forcorrective action and process improvement providing recommendationsand contributes to meeting department and hospital targets forquality and safety.

Reports near misses and inputs errors promptlyinto appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system toimprove processes and identify trends.

Utilizes critical thinkingskills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e.contrast media and medications) or potential outcomes asappropriate. (EF)

Ensures all imaging equipmenthas had quality control (QC) performed as required and is in safeworking order prior to use.

Reports any malfunctions to managementand regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; callsfor service if needed. (EF)

Assists withimplementation and education of department based safety initiativesand standards of practice.(EF)

• Provides accurate and completedocumentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the timeservice is delivered. (EF)
• Uses resourcesefficiently; does not waste supplies. Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks.(EF)

Actively participates in specialprojects department initiatives or shared governance activities andseeks opportunities to expand learning with a focus on continualdevelopment.

Graduateof education program approved by the credentialing body for therequired credential(s) indicated below in the CertificationsLicenses and Registrations section.

EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS

Three years ofexperience as a CTTechnologist

CERTIFICATIONSLICENSES AND REGISTRATIONSREQUIRED

• American Registryof Radiologic Technologist in Radiography (ARRT (R)) or RadiationTherapy (ARRT (T)) or Nuclear Medicine (ARRT (N)) or NuclearMedicine Technology Certification(CNMTB)
• American Registry of RadiologicTechnologist in CT (ARRT (CT))
• Registration asa Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRTGC) thru the Texas MedicalBoard
• American Heart AssociationBLS

KNOWLEDGESKILLS AND ABILITIESREQUIRED

• Demonstrates theskills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assignedjob determined through ongoing skills competency assessments andperformance evaluations
• Sufficient proficiencyin speaking reading and writing the English language necessary toperform the essential functions of this job especially with regardto activities impacting patient or employee safety orsecurity
• Ability to effectively communicatewith patients physicians family members and coworkers in a mannerconsistent with a customer service focus and application ofpositive language principles
• Ability to workindependently; capable of handling challenging / difficultdiagnostic procedures and patient care situations;

• Possesses basic computer knowledge;operates multiple computer systems to include Hospital / RadiologyInformation Systems and Office software to maintain patient andexam documents
