Shannon West Homeless Youth Center (SWHYC)
Activities / Volunteer Coordinator
Hours : Varies
Salary : Full Time Non-Exempt
Reports to : Shannon West Homeless Youth Center Case Manager Supervisor
Purpose :
Under the direct supervision of the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, case manager supervisor, this position supervises volunteers and provides planning, direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions at the SWHYC.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities :
- Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer / activity opportunities within the SWHYC.
- Collaborate with staff to assess SWHYC needs for volunteer / activities assistance.
- Draft proposals for new activities / events.
- Ensure volunteers are staffed to support the needs of the staff, youth and event.
- Recruit, interview and place applicants for volunteer work.
- Conduct and / or arrange for volunteer orientation and training including background checks, health cards and drug testing when necessary.
- Schedule all volunteer activities.
- Drive youth to volunteer activities and events using a company vehicle.
- Responsible for getting youth to activities such as events and volunteer events.
- Planning, set-up and travel arrangements for youth volunteering at outside nonprofits
- Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service.
- Create and utilize volunteer feedback received through comment forms.
- Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend or
implement changes as appropriate.
Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer
Participation.
- Work closely with Community Outreach Department to publicize opportunities for volunteers.
- Maintain open communication with the SWHYC Director and staff, regarding duties and events / opportunities
- Network, develop and maintain relationships with other community groups within the area.
- Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances.
- Calendar activities on a monthly basis and distribute to staff.
- Maintain and update wish list.
- Inform volunteers of all pertinent rules of the SWHYC.
- Enter volunteer data into donor data base software.
- Attend weekly Treatment Team meetings.
- Responsible for attending weekly meetings with Program Director and Chief Community Relations Officer.
- Report all program violations within 24 hours of incident.
- Provides crisis intervention as needed.
- Completes all required paperwork and logs, including incident reports, runaway reports and resident tracking log.
- Provides transportation to and from activities and events when necessary.
- Attends training when available.
- Performs other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Experience and understanding of homeless at risk youth issues.
- Understand and follow complex instructions and procedures. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Communicate effectively with persons from a variety of social, cultural and economic backgrounds and demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to culturally diverse populations.
- Effective written, verbal and listening skills. Independently initiates and responds to correspondence.
- Ability to maintain order and exercise appropriate judgment in crisis situations.
- Is flexible and can adjust to shifting priorities.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents, fellow employees, donors, volunteers, other agencies and the general public.
- Organize work schedule, and budget time.
- Understand and follow all agency policies and procedures.
- General computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office software and Constant Contact.
- Ability to work flexible hours as required by the resident case load.
- This position is required to be on-site and must have the ability to participate for events, purchasing of needed items, stewarding donors and volunteers.
Qualifications, Education and / or Equivalent Experience :
- High School Diploma and 3-5 years experience in management of volunteers and event coordination.
- Must have a valid Clark County Health Card.
- Must pass TB test.
- Must have current CPR / First Aid certification, and must keep certification current at all times.
- Must have a current NV driver's license and clean DMV record. Driver History Reports will be required to be submitted on a quarterly basis.
Working Conditions :
Work is performed in an indoor / outdoor environment with driving required at times. May be subject to sitting, bending, squatting, walking, standing, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds, simple grasping and climbing.
