We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our team. We seek a highly motivated individual with a proven track record of delivering successful IT and business outcomes.
The Database Administrator will be a PulteGroup’s Application Delivery team member and report to an IT Manager. The role will be based out of PulteGroup’s corporate office extension in Tempe, AZ or corporate office in Atlanta, GA.
It will require collaboration and partnership with team members across multiple functions / locations. The Database Administrator position will be required to work within flexible working hours with rotating evening hours necessary for deployment, support, and on-call activities.
As a Database Administrator, you will implement and manage the operational aspects of cloud and on-premises data platforms built on Microsoft Azure data services and Microsoft SQL Server.

Responsibilities :
Provides technical support for the database environment including creation, configuration, and organization of database servers.
Optimizes database systems for reliability, performance, and cost.
Participates in a rotating 2nd level support schedule that requires On-Call availability 24x7 during scheduled period. Troubleshoots and resolves complex database services issues / outages as they occur.
Escalates issues as appropriate to the Engineering team, other IT disciplines, or leadership. Records, tracks, communicates, and documents issue resolutions.
Ensure all databases comply with backup and high availability / disaster recovery strategies. Perform health checks and participate in annual DR testing.
Configures database server monitoring utilities to optimize proactive alerting. Maintains system performance through analysis and tuning.
Develops a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas. Maintains standardized monitoring / alerting across database environment.
When performance issues arise, recommends approaches to increase performance including hardware upgrades, server / cloud resource configuration changes, index / query changes.
Collaborates closely with Data Engineers and Developers to implement changes.
Identifies opportunities to improve database provisioning, monitoring, support, and deployment through automation. Partners with DevOps Engineers to create and implement automation.
Designs and implements database security controls and creates proper auditing procedures to maintain integrity of Company database systems.
Supports and facilitates auditing and reporting of deployment activity.
Participates in planning activities for scheduled or emergency application software releases. Executes Staging and Production database related release tasks.
Develops technical documentation for training, procedures, and project deliverables.
Creates and follows best practices, methods, standards, and processes.
Leads and participates in projects or other tasks related to the database environment or as assigned by application development Project Managers.
Performs system upgrades in collaboration with other IT disciplines and 3rd parties.
Participates in the creation of database-related support practices and processes and related documentation.
Participates in incident management teams by providing information, support, and root cause analysis on database-related aspects of the incident.
Identifies opportunities, leads, and participates in continuous improvement efforts for database service offerings.
May be called upon to lead small projects and provide guidance and task assignments to other team members.
Mentors and coaches less senior team members on database-related technologies, Company methodologies, and application knowledge.
Assists application development teams and less senior DBA’s in solving database-related issues.
Participate in engagements with 3rd party vendors in the assessment of advanced database applications and products. This includes proof-of-concept, testing, design, and implementation.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks;
participating in professional organizations.
Requirements :
5+ years in a Database Administrator role in an Azure cloud environment. Must have strong hands-on experience implementing, configuring, deploying, maintaining, and monitoring Azure SQL resources
Expertise with current versions of Microsoft SQL Server, i.e., 2019, 2022
Highly proficient in the installation, patching, monitoring, deployment, troubleshooting, and optimization of Microsoft SQL (both Azure and on-prem)
Experience with administration of SSAS, SSRS, and PowerBI servers
Proficient in writing and executing T-SQL scripts and queries
Experience with Azure database / storage technologies such as Runbooks, Elastic Pool, Storage, Data Factory, Azure Cache for Redis
Experience creating / maintaining deployment automation for Azure resources using ARM / Bicep templates
Experience performing deep analysis for performance optimization of Azure SQL resources using Application Insights, Kusto Query Language, or other 3rd party tools
Experience in configuration, maintenance, testing of High Availability / Disaster Recovery for SQL Server
Experience with source control systems and branching strategy (Azure DevOps, Git)
Experience with SQL Sentry a strong plus
Experience with alternative data stores such as Azure Data Lake and Azure Synapse a plus
Experience with scripting languages and common configuration files formats a plus, i.e., PowerShell, XML, JSON)
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, a field related to the position, or a combination of related education and work experience in the areas of database administration or database development to equal four years.
Preferred : Microsoft Certified Database Administrator and / or Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administration Associate
