Hours : 1st shift, Monday - Friday, 8 hour shifts No Supervisory Responsibilities No Travel Pay commensurate with experience

PRN, day shift in Chemotherapy.

JOB SUMMARY :

Chemotherapy RN will care for patients and provide infusion therapy, which entails the administration or prescribed intravenous chemotherapy drugs, as well as pre- and post-treatment patient care.

The Chemotherapy RN operates the chemotherapy equipment and continually monitors the patient during treatment, typically working in a clinical setting under the supervision of a physician.

The Chemotherapy RN will also administer any prescribed fluids, IV meds / injections, and / or blood products as needed.

Minimum Job Qualifications :

Experience :

Previous experience in oncology / chemotherapy / outpatient preferred.

License / Certifications :

• Must be licensed a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of NC.
• Current CPR Certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Chemotherapy RN provides direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of the RN include (but are not limited to) :

• Performance reflects knowledge in all areas of specific to the Chemotherapy.
• Knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition.
• Ability to perform a nursing assessment including pain on chemotherapy patients and reassesses as needed.
• Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluates for effectiveness.
• Formulates a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate.

Initiates patient teaching as soon as the patient is able to understand.

• Gives instructions to family members that will assist the patient with recovery.
• Prepares patient for discharge and instructs patient or responsible party regarding home care of patient according to the physician’s orders by providing them with written and verbal instructions prior to discharge.
• Documents patients / family understanding of discharge. Provides patient with explanation and verbal reassurance consistently.
• Identifies physical symptoms and changes including pain and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
• Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Practices good guest relations. Assists them in filling out forms, signing chemotherapy permits.

Meets family concerns by notifying them of delays and changes that may occur, evidenced by documentation in the nursing.

• Identifies and addresses psycho-social and cultural needs of patients and family.
• Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
• Approaches patient in a kind, gentle and friendly manner. Explains the routine of the day to the patient and family and instructs family where to wait.
• Assessment and re-assessment of the patient is clearly and concisely communicated in charting. Documentation meets current standards, policies and procedures.
• Utilizes all aspects of Standard Precautions and appropriate measures to prevent and control infection as per policy.

Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.). All new employees working must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment (unless the new hire has requested and received an exemption).
