Irrigation Technician

Objective : Manage, maintain, and enhance the irrigation system to ultimately improve golf course conditions.

Summary : Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system. Reports to the Golf Course Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Include the following. Other duties may be assigned :

  • Must be able to perform routine irrigation checks using tablets, digital clocks, and satellite boxes.
  • Ability to add or relocate irrigation heads, replace valves, change nozzles, and run basic irrigation piping as necessary.
  • Must be proactive in locating wet and or dry spots to adjust times as necessary.
  • Maintains a proper inventory of products.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Keeps the satellites clean and debris free.
  • Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
  • Ability to supervise a small labor force for special projects.
  • Maintains direct communication with all supervisors listed above.
  • Attends applicable training seminars and classes to keep knowledge current.
  • Communicates daily to the Golf Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
  • Assists Golf Course superintendent with additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

Education / Experience :

  • High School diploma or general education degree.
  • Prefer golf course experience.
  • 3 years irrigation experience.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Reasoning Ability :

Ability to understand, interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Physical Demands :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and operate; reach with hands and arms;

and see, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, bend, push, pull, reach and occasionally lift and / or move 50lbs.

Work Environment :

Outside work for extended periods of time and precautions should be taken. Ability to work in all kinds of weather. Often required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel.

Additional Comments :

  • Must be at least 18 years old, be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be on call for emergencies after hours.
  • Shift starts at approx. 6 : 00 am.
