SECTION I - ABOUT CMU

The leader in this seat will provide leadership, management, and accountability to the operations of the Office of Campus Safety and Student Conduct.
This office is responsible for all areas of safety, including student conduct, parking, and managing the GJPD contract. The Director works closely with campus departments, Grand Junction Police, and other community stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive campus safety program.
The Director oversees these functions at all CMU properties, including CMU Tech and Montrose Campus. The leader in this seat supervises staff in conduct and parking areas, as well as student employees in the SafeWalk Program.
Management
and oversight of campus safety including :
- Daily liaison with contracted security personnel including GJPD.
- Daily liaison with the Montrose Police regarding CMU Montrose Campus.
- Oversee Campus Safe Walk Program and other campus safety initiatives.
- Provide campus safety training and education opportunities to faculty, staff and student organizations on a regular basis.
- Work collaboratively with the Office of Access Control and Life Safety to ensure safety measures are in place across campus.
Provide
leadership for the campus conduct system by :
- Reviewing all incident reports of student misconduct both on and off campus, to ensure proper reporting of information and development of student intervention strategies as appropriate.
- Initiate appropriate student notices (e.g., alleged misconduct, no contact orders, trespass notices, etc.) to students who have been reported to have violated the student code of conduct and / or campus regulations.
- Track individual conduct cases from inception to resolution while ensuring timely completion of the conduct process.
- Monitor assigned sanctions to ensure compliance to adjudicated incidents and student development efforts.
- Generate timely reports of incident type, volume, outcomes, and sanctions on a bi-annual basis (Dec / June).
- Generate appropriate information / reports in accordance with Clery Act and other federal and state reporting requirements.
- Work closely with the City Municipal Court, District Court and Mesa County Court and all resources regarding student related cases.
- Work closely with the Colorado State Attorney's Office on university related litigations.
- Act as senior administrator for the conduct software tool (currently Maxient).
- Serve as the appeals officer for Residence Life Conduct Board hearings.
Prevention
and education of student conduct issues :
Present information about university policies and community guidelines to students, staff, and faculty.
OVERVIEW
AND SCOPE OF TEAM AND / OR TASKS
- Work closely with campus police (GJPD) on issues of campus / residence hall safety.
- Conduct departmental safety training and staff development.
- Design and execute staff development sessions for student staff and professional staff.
- As appropriate, support and provide education to other campus constituencies regarding the conduct process, current best practices, and university policies.
ACCOUNTABILITY
TO RESULTS
- By January of each year, the Director will have visited 90% of all departments to discuss safety. The Clery Report will be submitted with 100% accuracy by June of each year.
- Positive relationships with GJPD and Montrose PD will be formed and cultivated.
- Major conduct cases will be documented properly, and students will be contacted promptly. All active cases will be reviewed and updated, including student meetings, as necessary.
Serves as an appeals officer when necessary.
- The SafeWalk Program will keep semester data and will be reviewed each January and June for student use. Annual goals will be set and measured.
- Both Maxient and AIMS (conduct and parking) software will be maintained and evaluated for future use.
- Parking lot usage will be reviewed each semester with recommendations for changes and maintenance presented in March.
- Fees for parking will be evaluated each year with recommendations for change presented in October each year (prior to budget sessions).

Must have excellent interpersonal, group, and cultural communication skills.
- This position requires timely responses and willingness to be available 24 / 7 (unless planned vacation). GJPD is a direct contact for this person and all emergency calls will route this way.
- Must be able to collect and analyze data to use for presenting recommendations.
- Must be mobile to get around campus in a timely manner.
- Must be able to drive to other campuses and property owned by CMU.
- Provide Academic and staff training focused on student behaviors, safety, and resources.
- Work collaboratively with the Office of Academic Affairs to help ensure student success.
ESSENTIALS
TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and / or instructor experience in law enforcement, university campus safety, university student conduct, or a related field is required.
- Ten years of progressive experience in supervision, training, and / or instruction of sworn law enforcement officers may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- Computer literacy with an understanding of word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
- Working knowledge of legal and procedural conduct information, such as FERPA, Clery Act, Title IX, due process, and university student conduct expectations is required.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn all federal laws and regulations mandated for higher education.
- Knowledge or experience with campus policing and student conduct is preferred.
