Summary of Job Duties :

The Patient Care Technician, (PCT), is a specifically trained member of the unit based team. The Patient Care Technician supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multi-disciplinary Patient Management Team.

The Patient Care Technician works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and performs tasks and duties which do not require a licensed practitioner, professional judgment or intervention.

Qualifications : Required :

Required :

  • High School diploma / GED
  • Successful completion of a patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :

  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral instructions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong work ethics and accountability.

Preferred :

  • Previous Patient Care experience.
  • Orthopedic Experience.

Additional Information :

Key Responsibilities :

  • Obtains patient reports and has ongoing communication with R.N. regarding patient care / changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.
  • Assists with patient intake and rooming
  • Assists with obtaining insurance prior authorizations and administrative tasks as assigned
  • Assist with procedure setup
  • Carries out the Plan of Care for the Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by the Team Leader
  • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.
  • Follows through on delegated patient care activities
  • Assists patients and visitors with information and / or solutions to problems.
  • Serves as a resource person to support department members in the performance of duties.
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
